Hmm, I just exported a PSD file to JPG; the file size on disk is just over 140 KB. When I upload it to the challenge and check out the file size in the preview (Right click on the image in your browser and choose properties), it reports the size as 123 KB. Anyone noticed this before?

Every image will do this, and perhaps every file will as well.
There is a file size, and then file size on disk.
What you upload is the actual file, not everything included with it in regards to your PC, such as directory structure and or file allocation table data, which make up a small part of the file size on disk numbers.

Edit to add:
Let's just say it's something like that, and is how I understand it anyway.

That kind of makes sense. Except that every file system AFAIK, excludes meta data while displaying the file size. So, I would expect the 2 file sizes to match :/

DPChallenge may do some sort of additional JPEG compression or something. That could account for the smaller filesize.

Two reasons the sizes won't match:

1.) The reported file size on disk includes the slack at the end of the file, that is, the rest of the last allocation unit written. the next write will start at the beginning of the next allocation unit.

2.) The upload process strips off some metadata.

3.) 1 KB is 1,024 bytes, not 1,000 bytes.
