I would like to get some of the detail and color back from the landscape around the lake. Just a bit to dark to me and the things I have tried w/ photoshop have not help. Perhaps someone has a trick/tip that would help this become a better photo (IMHO). Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.//home.comcast.net/~robbdzka/Sunset.jpg |

Tools to try in photoshop are
Tools>Adjustments>Curves
Toolbar - Dodge Tool
Tools>Adjustments>Contrast/Brightness
If these don't help, there probably isn't enough structural data left to uncover. I used to use that camera you have. When things were dark, they were dark :-/
Good luck.
Besides, you have a nice silouhette shot ;-)

select the dark areas... then check the levels on em... fix the levels and it should bring back some of the definition. |

There's nothing that can be done to recover detail withint he silhouettes, but in the dark areas around the silhouette some improvement can be had. The following is rough because the resolution is so low on the original; trying to recover lost saturation introduced artefacts that wouldn't be present on a full-scale original, so I left off that step. Original first.
cntrl-alt-tilde, cntrl-j, set layer to multiply
return to BG layer
cntrl-alt-tilde, cntrl-shift-i, cntrl-j, set layer to screen
adjust slider both layers to satisfactory balance
apply usm
Robt.
