Patterns Take a picture of a repetative structure or pattern. Use your skill to make an interesting image from the repetitions within the scene
Blue Sky, water, clothes, calm, relaxing, cold, ice, snow. Take a picture in the theme of the colour 'Blue' Your picture may not even have anything blue within in but should evoke the colour in the mind of a viewer.
Green Grass, vegetables, landscapes, nature, moldy cheese. Take a picture inspired by the colour 'green'. Your picture should make people feel the colour, even if there is not a main 'green' subject in the image.
Sport Show us some action! Capture the excitment or challenge of your favourite, visually interesting sport.
Macro Get in close now - explore the world at less than normal scale. Anything that is bigger in the picture than it would be life size is fair game - lets find the wonder in the world of the small.
Out of proportions Play with the angles - create a picture that uses perspective or proportion tricks to create a stunning image. Giants towering over buildings, midgets holding up mountains.
After Dark A steady hand or a tripod will help you here. Take a picture after the sun goes down.

These sound like some good ideas :) Would anyone care to expand on some of these? What are your ideas for how to word the challenges on some of these topics?

Each challenge topic is posted with a brief comment to help describe the idea of the challenge... Any additional information to go along with these ideas would be appreciated :)

Song Titles: Pick a song, any song, and illustrate the title of the song with your photograph.
Shoes: The primary subject of your photograph must be a shoe or shoes. Slippers, sandals, flip-flops, galoshes, whatever -- any type of outer footwear is acceptable.
Windows: Windows are important features of many cultures. Not only are they a vital architectural element, but they also convey meaning through myth and symbolism. Sometimes they are simply interesting.
Weather: Take a photograph that illustrates the effect of weather.

Jak,
On a challenge like the song title challenge, would you suggest titling the photo with the name of the song and the author?

Great list so far!
The only one I don't like so far is winter; remember this is a worldwide userbase, and we don't all experience the same seasons at the same time.
In the interest of being constructive, here are a couple more suggestions:
Food and Beverage: Photograph a food and/or beverage. If it's edible, it's fair game.
Making a Living: Photograph a person or people doing whatever they do to earn their money.

I would love the song title challenge, and I would like to title it with the title of the song. I think it would be cooool. HOWEVER, lots of different music, lots of different contries. I think people would either get lots of "I don't get it", or people cold just make up something, give it a cool title and SAY it was a song. However, I would really like this challenge.

Gordon, excellent suggestions! Just one minor suggestion for change:
Originally posted by GordonMcGregor: Blue Sky, water, clothes, calm, relaxing, cold, ice, snow. Take a picture in the theme of the colour 'Blue' Your picture may not even have anything blue within in but should evoke the colour in the mind of a viewer.
I would change the last sentence to begin "Your picture does not have to contain anything blue...." as this may be clearer to some.

Yes, that was my original thought. It is true as a later commenter suggested that a shooter could simply make up a song title, but cheaters can never be stopped completely and I don't think we should avoid the topic because of them.

How about the Seven Deadly Sins? Pick one of the following and do a photo that depicts the Sin.
Sin - "Possible" Interpretation Pride - a false pride or lack of humility perhaps? Greed - wanting more that a fair share? Envy - not quite sure how to do this one Wrath - lack of kindness, impatience, etc? Lust - overriding desire for money, power (not necessarily sex related) Gluttony - excessive indulgence in almost any area of entertainment? Slot - unwillingness to make a meaningful contribution?
Remember that these are not "my interpretations" but "possible" interpretation.
From what I've seen of this site so far I'm sure we could get some REAL interesting takes on these. |

Arni, talk to me about the "B" suggestion... would this possibly be a challenge where a letter of the alphabet was selected and the photographer had to select a photographic interpretation of the letter or choose a subject that begins with that letter? :)
