Please give me some sugjestions how to improve the optics on my camera or how to protect the lens. I wont to add some tele photo lens...
If I put 2x is that going to make the camera 10x optical zoom?

Get a UV filter for it, any 58mm threaded filter will do. They are not too expensive & easier to replace then the main lens if you scratch it! Mine has never been used with out one! (as i'm a bit clumsy)

I am rather sceptical about teleconvertor & such like, I dont think they are worth the money & the cheap ones are of very poor quality.

You could also check-out cokin filters as well.

Happy snapping

I really like my 717. I don't have a UV filter on mine for protection. I thought about it, and this may have no basis really, but it seems to me that the UV filter really does nothing and would only detract from the quality lens - which was my main reason for buying this camera. I, of course, keep the lens cap on when not it use, but when I use it, I'll only use filters that really accomplish something. Where I DID use protection on the camera is a cover for the LCD screen. I have a "DaProtector" screen on all my digital cameras and see no reason not to use one.

That's also why I hardly ever use my 2x converter. It just doesn't seem to accomplish much of anything. I will confess that it is a cheap one so that may make the difference. I haven't found any acceptable way to really extend the zoom on this camera. I'm not particularly camera-smart, so these are just my observations. Hope this is helpful.

I am happy with the Sony 2x teleconverter, but it's actually 1.7x. My highest rated shot on DPC was taken with it. It is heavy so care must be taken to avoid camera shake.

I would recomend keeping a good quallity UV filter on the camera at all times. Accidents do happen and if you damage the lens, the whole camera is worthless.
