If money is no object:
1) Zooms or primes?
2) If you said primes, which ones?
3) If you said zooms, do you actually use your zoom lens' entire range or do you use primarily one focal length?

Zooms
entire length.
Too much bother to carry around 10 primes on a walk when I can carry 2 zooms. Right now my range is 17-300 (27-480 digital) in three lenses. Add a 2X and I can get to 960.

ZOOM
I'd say I use most of the entire range, usually either being toward one extreme or the other. Either wide to capture the whole view or zoomed to catch that far away shot.
Blast it, when are we going to get "Prime ZOOM" lenses....
Where is my Canon 12mm-600mm f/1.4R lens with USM and IS

Zoom
Nikon 200-400 F4 VR
Don't know why I'm waiting around. It is only 5k.
edit:
P.S. - I use zooms now. A 18-70, 28-300 & 200-500. I do use the whole range.

Hmmmm....the best zooms possible I think is more convenient when you don't have time to set up.
But give me a 400 F/2.8 and I'll be quite happy. |

Best of all, said lens is made out of space age graphite hulls... Drop them, they bounce....and the whole unit only weighs 1/2 lbs.
Works on the new 100megapixel Canon 1ZS Mark XXVIII

LOL, if money is NO object, then both! Seriously, I find that a combination of both is necessary. For long telephoto, I find primes to be a better solution. For very wide angle, I feel the same way. Between about 24mm and 200mm, my zooms (24-70 2.8 and 70-200 2.8) serve me very well, with the addition of fast primes at 50mm f/1.4 and 75mm f/1.5. A prime is a necessity for macro, thus the 100/2.8 Macro USM.
For primes on the very wide end, 8mm Peleng and 15mm Canon fisheyes are currently leaving a gap that I will eventually fill with a 20mm fast prime (gotta be f/1.8 at least, the Sigma is looking like today's best choice).
On the very long end, possibly the 300 f/4 or 400 f/5.6. I'd love the 300/2.8 but I'll upgrade my body long before making that jump.

Definitely zoom.
Nikon AF-S Zoom-Nikkor 28-70mm f/2.8D IF-ED
is my favorite lens to use. I do use the entire focal length.
I have had a lot of lenses. If money no object, but I could have only 1 lens. This is it. Portraits, Landscapes, low light.
To carry around 4 or 5 lenses would be cumbersome and I don't think there is a detectable difference of quality from this lens to a fixed.

If money is no object, get a good set of zooms and primes. Each have their own valid uses and they don't really overlap much. |

Primes. If money was no object, I could buy a prime for every focal length I needed.. and enough sensor cleaning kits to combat the constant switching of lenses.. (or just buy enough camera bodies to hold all the primes and drive around in a dune-buggy with a foam core electronic camera box strapped to it that gives me the camera/prime combo I need at the touch of a button... YEEEAAAHHH!!!)

I want some of both. Zooms are really convienient, and the good ones are as sharp as all but the very best primes. Zooms will help you catch a shot you might miss with a prime. Primes come in faster apertures than zooms do, so they can do things zooms can't.

1. yes
2. widest angle i can get-14mm but money would really have to not matter to get this one.
500mm
180mm macro
mp-e 65 macro
3. I use my 24-70L from one end to the other
my 100-400L I use more at the 400 end, but not totally. |

1 - Both. :-).
2:
14 F/2.8L USM
16-35 F/2.8L USM.
24-70 F/2.8L USM.
70-200 F/2.8L IS USM.
50 F/1.4 USM
180 F/2.8L USM Macro
400 F/2.8L IS USM
1.4x II Extender
2.0x II Extender
Hoya HMC or Sigma EX UV filters for the lot, and a couple of CPL's to match. Cokin filter mounts, Ckoin filters: ND2,4,8 Grad ND 2,4
And while we're at it...
2x EOS 1Ds MkII.
8x 2Gb Sandisk Ultra II CF cards
3: With my 70-200 I tend to use a good range, mostly in the 90-140 area it seems, with the 17-40 I seem to use the ends of the range a bit, and around 'normal' 35. If I was shooting full frame I imagine I'd probably be banging up against 200mm all the time with the 70-200, and would probably use the 1.4x extender a bit. (If I had one that is.) And the wide end, full frame I'd need to get the 24-70 golden lens.. (Golden price that is!)
Hmmmmmm, you did say the money wasn't a problem didn't you? I've just ordered this lot, what's your VISA number? :-).

Exactly!
If I am in the studio, then primes every time.
If I am out and about and am not exactly sure what I might encounter, I would want to carry a zoom, maybe a couple, rather than a heap of primes to cover the same focul length.

Zooms are convenient.
Primes, for the most part are better and faster at any one focal length.

If money is no object, multiple camera bodies please. Don't want the time or hassle of swapping lenses. Also will pay for the small army of sherpas to carry the gear.
Primes & zooms both have their place. You aren't ever going to get a zoom that is as sharp or as fast as a prime can be, but a set of primes will never be as convenient or rapidly adaptable as a zoom. It depends what you are shooting and what the needs are at the time.
Which is why I have several primes and several zooms... |

Money is no object. I own 1 zoom that I find useful, but I use my primes much more often. In particular I use my 85/1.8 (tradeing to get another 85/1.2 again) and my 600/4 more then any other lenses.

Primes
Usually the 50mm f1.7 or 28mm f2.8 or even the 100mm f2.8 macro.
