I'm new and I am trying to submit a shot. After to make some permissible changes in Photoshop7, when I make the "save for the web" I notice I don't see anymore the date shooting caption. I had been looking at other pictures that are now in the challenge and I can't find the date taken caption either with the PSP 7.

So my question is, is there a way to find out the date taken with another program better than the PSP 7?

Or if my image has to have this info, how can I make the changes to the image to include the date?

Thank you.

Your actual submission does not need to include the date info. Just make sure you keep the original, unedited image just as it came from the camera -- that is what would be used for any verification purposes.

In Photoshop 7, I think you can use the "SaveForWeb" feature to calculate how much compression will be needed. Then cancel and use the regular "SaveAs" command to save in JPEG format with the estimated compression setting. That should preserve the EXIF data. The "SaveForWeb" feature discards the EXIF, maybe to save a couple of kb.

There is a free programme called "Exifer" that let's you back up and manipulate your EXIF data. For example you want to display your shutter speed, F-stop and ISO in you PBase gallery, but do not want to upload your original. The easy solution is to Save for Web in Photoshop, open the web-ready version in Exifer and insert the EXIF info from the original! Just do not forget to delete the inserted thumbnail - chances are that your new image looks different from the original. Here's the link:

IMatch, a professional image management utility, offers a superb EXIF and IPTC support. It costs $50, but you can download it for 30 day trial from

//www.photools.com

Be warned - it's fairly complicated. Exifer is much more user-friendly and free.
