Panganini you make me sick.
160 lbs is NOT wide. it's healthy. I weigh a bit more than that and I have had plenty of wonderful guys knocking at my doorstep. Any guy that restricts his girlfriends to a particular weight/height group is too shallow for me. What happens when you have babies and gain weight? You gonna get divorced?

Of course this attitude might be nature's way of assuring that you don't reproduce. You'll spend your life looking for super-models that won't be looking for you :)

Now it all makes sense :)

Ok, I for one am tired of hearing how brainwashed I am. It's a typical comeback. I am one of those guys who prefers in-shape women. I am attracted to a woman that looks not just healthy, but strong and physically fit. To put it bluntly, I've been in bed with a woman with a few extra pounds and a woman in extremely great shape... I prefer the latter. I've been with a woman that works as a nanny and one that works as a topless stripper. Again, I prefer the latter. And don't tell me that I was with the wrong woman.

Women are just as selective as men are. I've been passed over for a guy with a different look more often than not. Sometimes for a guy with deeper pockets... faster car... stronger chin. Whatever the feature, women are just as shallow as men.

I'm not accusing anyone here of being that way, just a commentary.

That's your personal opinion and you're entitled to it. It's unfair to make generalizations about what men like (as panganini was doing) because it makes the rest of us outside your expectations feel like there's something wrong with us.
If you want a strong fit woman, whatever. I'm sorry you didn't have as much fun in bed with the larger woman than you did with the others (may I ask what you consider to be a large woman).
Not to speak for anyone else, but *I* am fun to be around, *I* am sick of being told i"m too fat for this and too fat for that. I sometimes shop at big girl stores, but most of the time I dont. so what? If I am substandard according to your height/weight requirements.. it's your loss cuz I am a fun person, open minded, and I'm probably smarter than alot of the boneracks you'll go out with. and I say that with confidence. (this comment wasn't directly aimed at you as much as it's aimed at the ones that think a girl needs to be a certain measurement to be worthy of their attention.)

bamaster - nothing I have said should have any bearing at all on who you would like in your bed... Jeez. I've been talking about depictions of women in art, specifically photography. Attractiveness is part of that (which is why I argued that the idea that health equates to attractiveness in thin women is wrong). Have sex with whoever or whatever you like, but don't tell me that only thin women are worthy of being photographed. I happen to believe that if you let yourself be blinkered by the mainstream media's depiction of men, women, children, old people, cats, dogs or ferrets, then you're not really an artist.

I agree with most of what is being said. My point of having sex with two different types of women was trying to say that I am more attracted to fit chicks. One of these ladies is the CEO of a pretty big DNA analysis company... she is smart as they come. Intellectual attraction and physical attraction are two very different things. As for art, the shape of the woman has little effect on how much I like it. What I call a few extra pounds may still be considered thin to you, that is not the point... it is all relative I think we can agree.

Interesting point, I bought the DVD Shallow Hal. In the Extra Features section, there is an interview of Gweneth Paltrow who plays herself and herself as a 350 lb lady. She had to wear this "fat suit" (not my term) for those scenes. Anyways, the first day they put the suit on her, she was in a hotel. For grins she went into the hotel bar and lobby. She comments on how very different people treated her. They ignored her... bartender ignored her, people kept their distance, gave her funny looks. Something she has never experienced.

Point is, yes, big women (in this case 350 lbs) are treated differently. No one can deny that. Has the media told us that being 350 lbs is undesireable, oh yes. But is that the reason why *I* don't like it? No. Just personal preference.

So how about them Houston Texans?

Hey bamaster, Lisa and Kavey (shy, retiring types that they are) both asked me to ask you to give us more details about your sex life, as they're really enthralled by it!

No Manic you missed the point ;)
I actually don't want to KNOW about his sex life, I think it's funny to ASK about it since the thread seems to have turned into an essay on it ;)
Everything has got so personal here (both nice and nasty)- it's certainly entertaining to read.

prefer looking at naked men than women, but alas, i really don't want to live life as a hermit...still waitin' for the day male bodies are objectified too....i'd love to be the one to do it but i don't have acess to models and even if i did i haven't the capability as a photographer (unlike john darnit!), in the meantime i'm not holding my breath for my preferred eye-candy to become popular...

btw, where my sister lives in pennsy, there's a book/magazine store where the issues of PlayGirl (naked men photos for women) aren't in the women's mag section like the men's mags of naked women are in the men's section...nope, to get a look at gorgeous male bodies in a magazine, we two women had to search and search and search that store until we found ourselves at the Gay men's magazine section and lo and behold! there was the stack of PlayGirl...

Woo hoo!! look what I found. :-D

For us gals and some guys.

You're just in denial. You try to pretend that you're one of these "new age nice guys" to women, ohhhh, i accept your form. BS. You know that you'd prefer a woman that is in shape, rather than someone who is out of shape and have her folds wrappeda round yer head :) Maybe you prefer that, but most men don't.

They do, huh? Could it be because some women are more promiscuous? :) I said, 160 lbs for a 5'2" woman is NOT healthy. 160 lbs for a 5'11" women is fine.

If you want to live in denial of how men thinks, go right ahead. I am just pointing out simple facts taht every male knows since puberty.

As far as the overweight issue -- if a person is overweight, he/she has only him/herself to blame. Stop taking those midnight snacks, get more exercise. I'll bet, if they stop eating what they're eating and eat more healthy (i.e. only eating Tofu for the next 4 weeks only), they'll shed massive amount of weight. But they dont' because they have no self control, like a kid that wanted that toy in a toy store and would make a scene with his parents to get what he wanted. It's always "It's not my fault I am fat." Yes, it is indeed your own fault that you allow your weight to grow exponentially -- getting depressed because you're getting fatter, then eating more, the selfish cycle continues. If you're happy that you're overweight, fine, but don't blame society for certain weight standards or preferences. It's life.

I've stayed out of this so far, but... :-)

What irritates me is that it seems that Ruth would like Kim to apologize for NOT being overweight or unattractive. She happens to have a trim body that she may or may not have to work hard to keep that way. There is plenty of scorn and derision aimed toward attractive women, but somehow that is "okay".

Correct me if I'm wrong here, but John and Kim's message had nothing to do with perpetuating a media stereotype. It was a beautiful photograph taken of the model at hand who happens to be his girlfriend, who happens to have a great body.
