I'll be traveling to Utah on a photo adventure with my family. Anyone want to join? I'll be leaving May 27th and returning June 5th. I plan to go to Monument Valley, spend several days at Lake Powell, and then up to Moab for the Arches National park and surrounding sites. If anyone is from this area and wants to get together, or if you too will be traveling in that area at that time, we should hang out and shoot some rocks.

why not? you only live once. we could swing up north on the way there and make some room in my truck. lol. But you are pretty close, if you ever want to meet halfway, like say little sahara or something I'm sure we have fun taking pics.

I was just up there last weekend on a 3 day canyon hiking adventure. Haven't even thought about the nearly 500 photos I took yet. Where are you planning on going around lake powell? On the lake or off? Do you hike at all? I might be able to give you some good tips on where to go. I get up there a few times a year and find new great places everytime I go up there.

I'd be interested in hearing any photo op tips about the Lake Powell/Page area and any slot canyon sites that are must-see sites. I'm not into strenuous hiking, so mainly places that are fairly easily accessible. I've seen tours advertised for Upper Antelope Canyon. Has anyone ever done one of those? Thanks.

so sorry it took so long to reply, one of my good friends passed this weekend, so I have been out of town unexpectedly. Good pics, though.

So here are my plans.

On friday, may 27th we will leave oklahoma city and drive to monument valley, stopping at window rock.

Probably stay the day of sat. the 28th at monument valley.

Then off to lake powell. There sunday, monday, and tuesday the 29th, 30th, and 31st.

From there off to Moab to set up camp and enjoy the surrounding areas.
We will be there on the 1st, 2nd and 3rd. wed, thurs. and friday.

Then off to the homestead.

All of these dates are tentative. Just depends on how fun each spot is how long we stay there, and if you guys want to set up a shoot day, I will gladly change my plans to accomidate. I really hope that some of you will join in the fun. These spots are so beautiful, and I think that it would be fun to have a bunch of us taking pics together. Anyway, sorry about the delays, lets have some fun. I have a stupid map with some links to some of the sites we will be going to. sites to visit

I'm going on a canyons tour the first week of June. I can't wait! I have never been to the area before. I will be making quick stops at Sedona, Grand Canyon, Bryce, Lake Powell, Monument Valley and Zion. Any suggestions of great places to shoot and things to do would be appreciated.

You could go to Kanab, Utah, and visit Pugh Canyon. I don't think it's all that big or spectacular, though.

By no means is this a complete list, but here are some places to see in the Page, Az area:
//www.pbase.com/azleader/page
Antelope Canyon (both upper and lower)
Lake Powell and Glen Canyon Dam
Horseshoe Bend
Navajo Bridge
The Toadstools
Vermillion Cliffs

Be sure to check out the Upper Antelope Canyon gallery and "The Toadstools".

Monument Valley is a Navajo Indian National Park. It is worth the small fee to drive a 20 mile loop drive. It is best seen in early morning or late afternoon. Some pictures of it are here:
//www.pbase.com/azleader/monument_valley

PM Louddog or myself for further information about these areas.

Thanks for the advice. I hadn't heard about the toadstools, I'll try to put that on the list of places to go. What would we do without DPC? lol.

"The Toadstools" is a hard place to locate and you will NOT find it on any map. There are no signs to tell you that you are there but it is worth the effort to find. It is about a 3/4th mile hike from the highway. I believe it is between mile post 19 and 20 from Page, AZ on the Utah side of the border on the north side of the highway 89 driving toward Kanab, UT. Outside of Page along Highway 89 there is a BLM office where they will provide directions and a photocopied topo map they will give you if you ask. (I got mine from them).

I was down there this weekend (Valley of the Gods, Moki Dugway, Muley Point, Bridges National Monument, Canyonlands). I went down to scout the area my Dad wants his ashes spread (Muley Point). Was going to hike in and see the All American Man pictograph, but the ranger recc that not really doable as a day hike, and no camping sites open in the canyon. So I started looking for a campsite. I drove 110 miles looking for one. NONE!!! Was gonna camp and shoot Arches on Sunday.
SOOO......I got up on Fri at 1600 (after 6 hours of sleep), I started my drive from CO at 2130...got to Moab around 0400, Valley of the Gods by 0600. Up and over Moki and through Bridges and to Blanding by Noon. Out of Canyonlands about 1400 and to Moab. Got hacked off not finding a place to stay, so I drove back to CO. Home at 2330 on Sat night. COuldn't sleep after that.
I was awake for 37 HOURS straight..and driving for more than 26 of that! YIKES!!!!!
Now that is a WHIRLWIND TOUR!!
Moral of the story...call and reserve a campsite....somewhere. I plan on going back and getting that All American Man pic later.

I did get some good pics, even though the horizon lines are a little wonky. (C:
Oh yeah...here is a pic...Pano that is

sounds like an adventure. I am having my wife look into places to stay. I know you need reservations to camp, but we do like to rough it. I also saw that moab experiance, but I didn't want to pay another $1000 for the vacation, and the family wouldn't like it. honestly, I wanted to do it.
