I know this isn't an electricians forum, but this is the one place I like to look/ask things like this because of our diverse backgrounds in life.

My mom just recently moved into a different house, and ever since then her freezer (part of the refrigerator, vertical to the left of it) has been having a problem. It tends to drip/leak water down from around the ice-cube rack area which runs down the back of the freezer and eventually turns into ice. This is getting to be a problem because we want the ice in the ice-box, not the back of the freezer! Anyway, I tried searching the net for possible solutions/troubleshooting but had little luck. I was hoping that somebody here might know what could be wrong or what to look for.

Thanks very much!

I'm assuming that there is an ice maker there. If so, remove the ice maker and make sure the valve that releases the water after dumping the ice has not been damaged or the hose loose. And a more simple problem could be that the refrigerator is not level, leaning backward by a degree or two. It don't take much of of a tilt or off level for the ice maker tray to overflow.

Try going to diy.com. You should be able to find a possible fix for this.

Thanks guys - I'll let my mom know in the morning (I've begun the commute back down to LA and am in central cali right now, so can't do it for her). I knew I could count on DPCers for some possible solutions! :)

Happened to us once. Leveling took care of it. The old floor wasn't level, and we didn't readjust the feet for the new floor. Take a carpenter's level to the reefer and make sure it's square first.

yeah...has to be something with the switch in there that tells it when to shut off the water going to the icebox...or possibly the valve that shuts the water on/off could be leaking.
