What DO men want? In life, from their careers, from their women, their home lives? Are the sexes really THAT different?

I get the feeling we don't want to take too much seriously. (I happen to agree)

Based on my experiences, I would be inclined to believe that men want respect, admiration, trust, compassion, and dignity. They want to feel like they are important to and validated by the women in their lives as well as by their careers. They want to know that they are doing a good job, either at work or at home. They need encouragement, humor, and lots of patience. Not dissimilar to us, really.

Except one little part... most would probably like to be married to some genetically-enhanced clone combined from the chromosomes of Pamela Anderson and June Cleaver. ;o)

Berry...you're SOL, because it depends on the guy. Some guys want to make a mark on the world, some want to tread lightly. Some guys want to rule, some guys want no responsibilities. Some guys want mystery, some guys want clarity. Some guys want excitement, some guys want serenity.

Basically, don't worry about us guys. Let us guys worry about you. Frankly, if you are who you are and are true to that, the guys who like that will come to you. Hopefully, that will jive with what you like.

Hope this isn't too presumptuous...if so, know that I'm an ass and that's that.

If you're speaking of men. collectively, I'd say the overriding imperative is a sense of "power"... A sense of being in control... For some men. this is pervasive; these are the testosterone jocks that give us all a bad name. This is the caricature of a "man". At a more human level, a man wants to be in control of his own destiny, to have a sense of empowerment over his own life. For many men, this translates into the "provider" role, but that paradigm is shifting.

These are my initial thoughts on the matter, and do not reflect the position of management in any way, shape, or form...

Why is everyone so wrapped up in that plasticine Pamela Anderson? That's just...nasty.

I take that latter part as humorously exaggerated, but for the record I do not want, nor have I ever wanted, a Stepford wife.

It's an old concept, for sure; "A lady in the drawing room, a servant in the kitchen, a whore in bed..."

I think what men like is the hierarchy - to know our place in it. Some men want to be at the top, some are content in the middle or even the bottom - but we all like to know where we stand and for everybody else to know where they stand.

I think this is why men tend to not talk in the bathroom - bodily elimination of waste is a reminder that in nature we are more equal than our hierarchy makes us think - so we do our best to ignore it and get on with things.

Bingo.

This gives me an idea for a movie.

Synopsis-

A man sells his soul to the devil for simplicity, but the situation becomes more complex as he realizes the deal he made includes eternal damnation, and tries to break his bargain with Satan. Moral - Man will never have simplicity. Not a happy ending. Satan would be played by Morgan Freeman, because well, that would make the movie good. Actually, we'll have the man be played by Tim Robbins, but it will be completely different than Shawshank Redemption.
