Bitter cold last night but I set up the scope to take a few pics of Saturn and the moon. Here is my best moon attempt:
My saturn attempts were much less successful (too much atmospheric boiling because I was so close to too many houses). Here is the best result:

I could post some pictures of my setup, but adapters are available for just about any camera you can name. Visit Scopetronix web site and browse their digital camera adapter accessories for an idea. |

Shameless bump.
Here is another shot from last night, this one an intentional overexposure of the crescent moon to bring out the "earthshine" on the unilluminated portion of the moon:

Could you have stacked a bunch of these to get the earthshine detail without blowing out the crescent as much?

Stacking shots of a larger object like the moon is not so easy, because atmospheric distortion actually changes the shape of the disk over such a large area. The brightness range between the sunlit and dark portions of the moon is so great that I think some blowout is inevitable. I toyed with the idea of merging two shots in layers, a 1 second exposure for the sunlit and a 4 second for the earthshine, and then blending them, but I never got around to it.
Your image is great. One of the best I've seen handheld, certainly!

good shots, only one problem, your saturn image is fake. I had my scope out the other night and when I looked at it there is only 1 Saturn, maybe the aliens moved the other one into view foryou to capture it and put it back when you were done :P
