I'm just wondering what extra kit people have bought for their Sony F828's - just got one, wondering what's a good buy and what's necessary. Also wondering if there are any lenses which turn the camera into a panoramic (or close).
What do you think of this link:
//cgi.ebay.com.au/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=48525&item=3879878935&rd=1
Ebay link
Also if people have photos taken with that sort of panoramic set-up could they show them or email them to me. |

pgatt I don't think those lenses are any good. Best to stick with a Sony close up lens and I think the 828 was not made for adding any lens with any weight because of the zoom lens on the camera. I think Sony advises against it. all I have is a HOYA super hmc pro1 UV filter. And thats it. Maybe someone else can help more.

Oh okay. The link says that they are for the F828 but I'll believe you. I wasn't sure myself, that's why I asked. |

You got a Carl Zeiss on the end of that thing, what else could you ever need. Its very fast too at f2.2 all round from 28-200mm WOWSWER!! I really miss mine. Still waiting for the new Sony body to appear then its byebye Nikon hello Zeiss.
get a polerizer for it and a good sturdy case, nice manfrotto stand and you will be set. |

There's also a tripod with a remote on it that is for the f717 that should work with the f828. Do a little research first.

I got a UV filter for mine, not so much to filter the UV but to make it easier to clean the lens, we have a LOT of salt spray here.
I also bought an extra battery, handy to have but I rarely need it as the F828 will pretty much go all day on one change.
Lots of compact flash cards, and one memory stick pro, so I can do high quality video.
I also have a number of flash units and slave attachments for the flashes.

My accessories are the following:
-Pelican waterproof case (i've swam across rivers with the camera and suffered no ill effects)
-SLK tripod (cheap, light, about $40 new)
-Sony Macro lens (this one is great)
-Tiffen ultracontrast filter (i got this ignorantly thinking it would dramatically expand my dynamic range, but alas, all it really does is create an interesting glow effect--still cool, but i wouldn't buy it again)
-one 1gb compact flash card and an Archos Gmini 120 portable hard drive to store pictures on (an also extremely functional, cheap, alternative to an ipod for mp3s)
-UV filter to protect the lens
-two extra batteries. i really don't need three. i bought a second for a long trip, but my brother's old cyber shot died and he gave me the third battery. all totall i have 9 hrs of juice (with no flash. flash is icky anyway)
-Polarizing filter (i got a cheap one for like $15 and wasn't too excited about the results. i don't use it often)
on my list to purchase is a Hoya R72 infrared filter. that along with a decent ND filter could open up a lot of options. (the ND wouldn't be needed, except sony blocked some functionality of the nightshot so people couldn't use it to look through swimsuits)
more and more i wish i had telephoto, wide angle, and fisheye options, but i don't think the options are really practical when you balance price and functionality.

Thanks people. Love the feedback. Was thinking about a battery too before, but as you say, you go a whole day on one charge of the battery, so who could ask for anything more. The reason I asked about the wide angle converter for the f717 and whether it was compatible, is not because I'm unhappy with the inbuilt glass, but if I can pull some more width out of the camera then it would just complete the package. |

Greetings
Welcome to the 828 family!!!! Hmm accesories, I think I have all the Sony filters (Polarizer, Macro, 2 Neutral Densitys (ND), Stars in lights, "soft portrait", etc) the only ones that you really should have would be the polarizer, ND and the Macro (It kicks butt!!!) the other two are kind of disapointing, to me at least)
As for flash, spend the money get the hvl-f1000, it is an awesome flash, with great range! A tripod is a must, and I'm sure there are others on here better able to advise on what is a good one than I (I'm using a 15yr old Slik), A Spare battery and of course a couple of SD cards (I use 2 1gb SanDisk Ultra II's) oh and a bag to keep all the toys in! (again others can advise on these better than I can, I'm using sonys LCS-VA30 and quickly have outgrown it as it wont fit the cam and flash together, but amazoned a new one yesterday, hurry up Fedex!!!!)
Other than that, maybe a good photo Printer, a copy of PS, and......
Again, welcome to DPC and the 828 family, if you have any questions please feel free to email me, also to see some of my work done with the 828 check out my website //www.mikefairbanks.com!

Can anyone post me a link of Sony's recommending not to use the f717 or other wide conv. lens or info either way? I'd just love to shoot panos! Someone who's actually done it?

Like mfairbanks said welcome to the 828 family. I keep my accesories pretty much to a minimum but I have a UV filter, a polarizing filter, an extra batery ( which I seldom really need), and a little over 2 gig of memory. Also a sturdy tripod is a must. |

thanks guys - I've followed your advice picked up a couple of filters haven't got an extra battery, going to wait till I feel I really need it. So far I've been impressed by the length of battery - no worries at all, even hammering the flash. |
