Hey, I've been trying to buy a wacom intous3 4x5 pen tablet, and it seems everywhere is sold out (unless you want to pay an extra $20-$30 more, and even those places may be sold out if you actually place the order, who knows...). Anybody have any idea why these things appear to be so rare? Are they brand new and production hasn't ramped up yet? Or do they just fly off the shelves faster than they can make them? Something else? I've got one on back order, but I'm just curious as to why this is... Thanks.
Doug

I have one, so I am on their mailing list. I know they came out with a couple new ones in their fancier line; maybe they are going to be upgrading it? I can't use mine, I discovered, because of the way I write and draw - just doesn't work for me.
Edit: I just looked on Amazon and they have plenty.

Amazon has plenty? Of what size? Cause when I looked, they were sold out of the 4x5s...
Kylie, if you can't use yours, would you consider selling it? What size and model is it? Thanks for any info...

Yeah, went back and looked at Amazon. They have 6x8s and 9x12s (supposedly) but no 4x5s. I'm looking for a 4x5 due to small pocketbook and desk space.
I also checked ebay a couple days ago...no luck there for an intous3. At least then...
I just wonder what the reason is for the "shortage".

Wouldn't want to buy mine, would you? I edit with my right hand, but write with my left, and just can't seem to get it right with either hand with the tablet.

I bought the 9x12 Intuos II that I am working on right now about five years ago. I think I paid a little over $450 for it. Great investment at any price.

I have the 6x8 that I bought about a year ago and I use it rarely I cant get the whole just of touch and it activates the tool I keep messing things up when using it. Maybe I just need practice with it. I messed with all the settings. I do recommend buying insurance on it. I bought mine at comp usa and bought the insurance after using it for a while messing around I noticed scratches and marks developing on it in the form of grooves I took it back and they replaced it with a newer model on the spot. |

All this has been very interesting and useful, but back to the original question.
Does anybody have any idea why these things are so rare? I'm curious...

fotodude - is there a particular reason that you want the 9x12? I have had a 6x9 (early model) and now have a 9x12. The 6x9 was *much* more practical and useful for me. My next one will be the 6x8...plenty of real estate for just about anything, and much more convenient.

If you really want more bang for you buck, check Fry's electronics Frys electronics They have several types of tablets in stock. I found a large hypertec for about 159$, about the same price as the middle size Wacom brand.
One word of caution with Fry's.
Sometimes they sell "reconditioned" merchandise. It is always marked as reconditioned, but be sure you get an unopened box. I haven't had any problem with anything I've purchased there yet.

fotodude,
Where'd you find the $79 and in stock? I went to macmall.com and found the price as $189, with the note: " Place your order today and be one of the first to receive this product when it arrives!" so it wasn't in stock... What am I missing??!?

There is a change over of products going on with Wacom. It looks like some models are going out and some coming in, but they don't make it real obvious. Sorry that I was of no help.

Ah, looks like fotodude was talking about a graphire3 4x5. I'm looking for the intuos3 4x5. Newer model I assume from the price and availability...
Maybe that's it, the intuos3's are just so new they aren't on the shelves yet? Anyone here actually have a intuos3 (not a 2) already?

How is the 4"x5"? Is it too small? Should someone just get the 6"x8" instead? I'm interested in getting one but wasn't sure about the size.
