I went to google to get look for a free virus scan download, but everytime I try to search, internet explorer closes. My parents are going to KILL me, I have got to find it fast. does anyone know where I can get a free virus scan?

go to //www.download.com and search for adaware and download/run that. That should fix it.

You need a virus scanner not a spyware scanner. There are some online. I just found this one for ya:

You may have just gotten a stupid ad through windows messaging. There's a way to turn that off, but I don't remember just now. How was the top of the window that said that labeled?

If you have a virus download this file from McAfee

Stinger

Works great and is a small stand alone file...save it to your desktop and run it.

PrincessBeth check your email I sent you the Stand alone virus scanner...

You can also download the free version of Grisoft - AVG It actually finds things faster than my PAID Antivirus program.

I'll be using Grisoft AVG again once my current antivirus utility expires.

download the trial version of Avast. it's the best anti-virus i've found. takes care of viruses that Norton and McAfee won't touch.

At her age and this hour of the night -- I hope she shut it down and went to bed.

It is not completly fixed, but I had to let my brother work on it and I went to bed. We have differant user acounts on our computer, so we got on his user acount and ran a cleaner (it would not let me run a cleaner on my user acount, this is a smart virus). it said that it fixed the problem but my user acount is still acting wierd, so I don't think we caught it yet. It is looking like we are going to have to wipe the hard drive.

AVG anti-virus is excellent! Plus since its still free, and they want more to use it they seem to update the virus definitions faster than the paid anti-virus programs! //free.grisoft.com/freeweb.php/doc/2/

You might want to also think about getting yourself a firewall to help prevent future issues. If you need a free one ZoneAlarm is pretty good and easy to use.

Before you go to that drastic a measure, you might try deleting your profile & creating a new one. Sometimes, profile info gets messed up & things start acting funny. Try this if you don't find any viruses, or even if you do find & clean a virus, but things still don't work right under your profile.

I think that I found it. I deleted it and things seem to be running better! thank so much everyone for your help!
