Is it at all possible/feasible to include on the photo submission page, perhaps under the f stop, ISO and speed columns, what LENS was used in the event of a slr digital being used? That way we can build a data base of lenses and have a direct sample to refer to.

LOVE this idea.

Great idea! It would be great to have a section for lens type.

I would love to have an image base from which I could draw samples that would aid my choices for purchase.

We all know that it aint the body, but the glass that counts (for the most part).

I was surprised that this site does not have it. I love this feature on:
//www.usefilm.com

I think it is very useful and should be implemented soon.

The problem is the photos would tell you virtually nothing about the lens.

From what I have been reading on the forums, it's already in the works and the database is being populated.

I agree. I've brought this up before but many seem to share Dertay's opinion.

Personally, I'd like to see focal length as one of the data items collected as well as the other info. And whether you can compare lenses or not, it's still a nice way to see "the variety" of quality shots a particular lens can produce.

I'd certainly be willing to fill it in.

I'd fill it in too. I'd just hate to have people spending a lot of money based on unwarranted conclusions.

Exactly my point, With available lens data, not only the lens "name", less expensive mistakes would be made. I just got the 100mm 2.8 macro for my birthday and could not believe the quality of the lens.... Just thought to myself I'd love other people to share the knowledge. Yip, I'd fill in all relevant info we might be asked to provide.

i try my best to add - if nothing else - the lense and lighting to the photo details... it isn't that hard to type in.

Something to think about...

When you look at a photograph, how much can you really draw about the lens that was used to make it? This particular issue has been mentioned many times before.

When we post photos online, they usually have been post processed to some degree, which sorta makes it really difficult to evaluate the lens that was used to make it. If I sharpen a photo after I shoot it, how will you know if the lens that made it was naturally sharp? If I adujst my levels and curves, how will you know about the contrast and saturation that is provided by the lens?

Here's an example to consider:

Canon EF 75-300 f/4.0-5.6 USM/IS Lens Photo

Canon EF 70-200 f/2.8L (@f/5.6) Photo

At web resolutions, the differences in these lenses are relatively insignificant. You do, however, see a significant difference in prints.. especially larger ones.

I think that is a great idea. I was just thinking that today as I was looking st some photos.

well i am learning more and more - you really only need a 100mm and a 50mm...

if i get a 300mm then i might add that to my only needs, but...
