Here's a dumb but fun idea. A lot of camera phones now save EXIF info. How about a free study challenge where the picture must be taken by a phone?

How about by a phone or of a phone, for those of us who don't have one. You could require that the maximum image size be reduced ...

Speaking for all deaf members of DPC, I protest this...

LOL

Apart from the limitations that many members here will doubtless lack phones with cameras, let alone ones that then jave exif data ....

Why?????????

I can't see this being a challenge where it would even be worth voting on, sorry.

agreed there are only acouple of camera phones out there that can even take semi decent photos it would be a collection of really really bad pictures If any toped a 2.0 rating I would be surprized.

Sort of the modern equivalent of a pinhole camera, I guess. I used to use them as a teaching tool in my photography classes. It's very interesting to turn your creativity loose with a tool that allows no adjustments whatsoever.

I'd like to see what the best photographers on this site could do with one though. Really - does it just come down to technology or can someone do something special with one of these?

I don't see the harm in a one-off like this. There are plenty of 'high quality' challenges to compete in if you're not interested.

Yeah - I don't have a camera phone, and I suspect we'd be extremely lucky to get 50 entries, but I'd still like to see what people could come up with. I seem to remember someone (I think it was one of the many icelandic folk) coming up with a really great shot out of a 0.3 megapixel camera.

I think it was Nazgul.

Cheers - I think you are right - I seemed to remember it being him too, but didn't want to randomly just toss a name out there :)

I have some ideas for challenges of the future:
1. Book titles
2. Lamps
3. Famous paintings
4. Antiques
5. People and their pets.
6. Trees
7. Sunrises
8. Sunsets

My phone has a camera, but from what I can remember, the internet service is $15 a month for Sprint and that is the only way to get the image from your phone to your computer (through email)...although when we first signed up, we go 3 months free and I used it a lot...just not worth the $15 a month to me for a 600 pixel image capability.

Maybe it should be a low end camera competition. Those who don't have a camera phone could use a web cam and it would have to be less than 1 megapixel image. For that challenge throw out the exif being required as a lot of web cams don't have that.
