I heard today that there was a recall on nikons d 70 dslr's that were made in jan and feb.. something about the ccd going bad. But cant find it on nikons site. Has anyone else heard this?

I think it's all d70's that are bad and not just the ones made in jan / feb. ;-)

Canon releases Digital Rebel
Nikon relases D70 and blows it out of the water
Canon releases Rebel XT with not too much improvement over d70 (more mp, woohoo)
Nikon- will probably blow that out of the water with the d70 successor

Too bad it didn't work that way for the pro cameras :-P

The other issue is that the d70 (while obviously a better cam than the rebel) is quite a bit more expensive (about 300 dollars more down here - even after the factory rebate).... otherwise I would have one :).

When I bought mine the price difference was very little. The package that I looked at was cam + kit, good flash, 55/70-2-300mm and 50mm 1.8

edit: the zooms made the difference - looked at 70-300 G for the Nikon (but bought a 70-210), also the kit lens is so much nicer with the Nikon

Searched the net and only came up with one result. I lifted these two comments from a thread on another site:

i spoke to a camera shop in the UK on saturday that has stock and they said it was not true.

so i might have been a pre release recall in which case it isn't a recall because if it hasn't been released how can you recall it?

that is a last minute mod.

and

I understand the "recall" was done before general release in asia (release was about 20 days ago) and the firmware was updated - the correct firmware is A1:00 B1.01.

I have had mine 3 weeks and it was supplied with the correct firmware so i dont think it is an issue.

Looks like everyone can relax.
