Well, depending on your budget; The GIMP is free and fairly well feature rich, Photoshop Elements (for Windows or Macintosh) is a scaled down version of Adobe Photoshop at much less the price while not missing much feature-wise.

There are others, but these are the most used.

For the basic stuff you could get picasa and for anything more advanced get gimp.

Both are free to download and use, you may find Photoshop easier to work with but if you have nothing to lose in trying to get on with gimp first :)

Try Adobe Photoshop Element 3 .
For $99.00 you have a good management software plus a limimted version of photoshop.
Adobe merge Photoshop element & Adobe Photoshop album in 1 software. It's a great software.

For an extremely easy user interface, as well as very easy to use, but somewhat limited (The only time I use elements is when I have to clone, dodge, burn, or whatever) editing features (it can change contrast, black point, white point, hue, saturation, brightness, sharpness and grain) you can try Compupic Pro. It's what I use, I haven't had a problem with it. It's more limited than others, but it has the organisational element
