I recently purchased a Canon PowerShot S30 and can't seem to get good clear pictures. As soon as I think I have my head around aperture, shutter speed, and ISO settings... I take a picture and forget about it! Out the window all the stuff I thought I knew goes. It's either over/under exposed or blured.

Does have any suggestions on where I could find info on how to take good quality pics with my Canon PowerShot S30?

Thanks.

I have an S30, too, and I've been very happy with the results. It's hard to put a finger on the problems you've been having without being right there with you, unfortunately.

The "Auto" mode seems to work pretty well for starters. If you're experimenting with the manual modes, it may take a while to get the hang of how to use all of the features.

Can you send me a couple of your raw images that have been flawed? I might be able to make some better suggestions if I can see some of the images you are having trouble with... xxxxxx

I have a canon s30 as well for 4 months and I am VERY happy with it, never had any problem.
Question : areyou a 'neophyte' or not ?
Could you tell a little more ?

- If you are a 'beginner', start with automatic and set the iso at 100
- Remember that the settings you are doing are 'remembered' for each mode, for example if you set manual focus in priority speed mode for example, it's going to remember it ... (I am 90% sure). so if just before you take your picture, you switch to priority to aperture for example, it's going to be an other set of settings.
Double check that but I am sure that size and resolution are related to the mode you are in.

Maybe explain a little more so we would be able to help you more.

I believe that the automatic setting does not allow for changing the ISO... I think in automatic mode it's already set for 100.

you're right, and there is an 'automatic iso'. I did not have the camera with me.

bnpagan , you need to be a little more specific. Because true you can control almost everything in manal mode, but the s30 automatic mode is 'very automatic' so you should get ok pictures.

I have an S30 too and I'm delighted with it.

The ISO setting cant be changed in auto mode but nor can much else. In the P, Tv, Av and M modes you can change everything including the ISO.

Setting like flash mode, exposure compensation, flash compensation and so on are remembered as long as you stay in the P, Tv, Av, M modes. When you use Pic modes (all the other modes) the camera reverts to defaults.

Like the others - I'd be happy to suggest ways to improve but I'd need to see some of the shots you're unhappy with to understand what's going wrong.

Please not RAW mode files though :)

I didn't literally mean "RAW" images when I suggested he send some... Perhaps I should have chosen my words a little more carefully! :)

I'm hoping bnpagan will come back and give us some pictures so we can help... it seems odd that someone would ask for help and then ignore the rest of the postings...?
