When selling photos to friends, or acquaintances what do you charge? i always feel a little weird for charging, and when i do, i never know if its the right price. do you vary it depending on who it is, or how they were reffered?

I print everything up to 12x18 myself. A majority of what I sell is in this range. The larger stuff gets printed at various places, depending on what I need.

I charge two beers for an 8x10, if I do the printing. I like to give friends a CD with all the photos on it so that they can do their own printing.
People are very giving here (Hawaii) and I would not feel right about charging friends who have given me so much over the years.

I now know better.......
I obviously need my eyes testing. My only defence is I have poor eysight, can't spell in search engines, have incompetent typing skills, and live in the West Country.

I'm curious. Any sitting fee? If a friend asked if you could go down to "xyz" location, and take pictures of her daughters...would these prices still apply with a location shoot?
thnx ~d |

I try to avoid doing portrait work. If I do, there is a $35 sitting fee. I also require a minimum of $30 worth of prints to be purchased, which is too low. I need to make that $100. When someone gets a print from you, you won't see any additional sales of that particular print, so you need to get your money up front.

I have a similar pricing structure and also print on a 2200. I typically do not have much call for prints larger that 8.5x11. My neighbor does matting and framing so that service is also available. I also offer package pricing for larger orders of 10-30 8x10's. Typically if I'm shooting on location, it is just figured into the package price.
Will add a couple of on location shots in a bit.

Interesting to see current prices. I haven't had a price list for eight years, and the price structure was one I got from a friend, as we used the same printer (service).
The Epson 2200 is an excellent printer. Bear_music convinced me about the 2000 when I went visiting and saw his prints. The 2200 had just come out so I grabbed one and haven't been disappointed. He's also the one who convinced me it was time to go digital. I bought a camera 3 days after I visited. The printer when I got home.
I don't think my wife's mad at him, anymore *grin* |
