I took both of these shots this afternoon on my back patio and was surprised at how similar they came out. These guys are so quick! Birds are some of my favorite subjects.

Very nice photos, but.... why do they both look like they only have one wing??

They are very much alike. I took this one a couple of months back. |

Taken about a year ago. This shows the complexity of a small birds wing.

Ahaze,
they are in the midst of a sharp turn, one wing is angled down and back.
Nova,
the titmouse is stunning...

Robert is exactly right. I was in a patio chair next to steps that go up to the deck, and the shepherd's hook that the birds perch on when coming to the feeder was about 10 feet away, and slightly to the right of me. The birds wouldn't see me at first and would light, fidget, and just as I clicked the shutter would wheel away to their left, as both of these pictures show. Need to touch up the second photo a bit, did a bit of a rush job as I removed the perch from that shot.

gaurawa: Like your first shot the best. Would be a great BOKEH entry.
Gauti: Your 2nd is my favorite... you were gone quite awhile, eh? :) |

well, the time between #1 and #2 is about 2 seconds, and between #2 and #3 less than a second. Unfortunately the focus is not dead on (OK for low res like here tho) so prints are not as cool
Yes, you're right, gaurawa's first has nice bokeh

Thanks nova. I was very pleased with these shots, though I spent about an hour cliking about 40odd pics to get a few I liked. |

On Jan. 4 you said:

(I quite agree with your sentiment there, by the way).
And then today (Jan 5) you posted your pics!

THAT's why I jokingly said that you were gone quite awhile... I wasn't referring to the photos themselves!! (Just a little quirky southern humor, I reckon') |

You read the whole thread AND remembered it! WOW :)
No, I felt it strange that you saw some time lag in the photos, now I understand it.
I only have about 200+ photos in my Look closer at and maybe edit if they're any good folder and since these are 16bit .tiffs that can take awhile. But there are more coming up. One right here, the (mainly) American Harlequin Duck. In Europe only (or almost only) found here in Iceland.
You don't get 'em much more colourful than this duck.
ps If I keep uploading at this speed, expect some more tomorrow. It's way past my bedtime now (3.30 am local)

I intentionally gave this one a motion blur with the camera; it was my first attempt at something a little on the artsy side. Any comments? |

Sailingduck, I think the colors in the water as well as the rippling effect are outstanding, but in my opinion the pelican is a little less appealing because it is a bit small in the frame with more blur than I care for. I think that most of the time, some blurring works well, but I like to see the bird's head and maybe most of the body a little more clearly. Of course all just my take on it, thanks for posting it.

Thanks Ray
Next one is online. The boundary between Air and Water.
Blackheaded Seagull diving into the water.
Arctic Tern just out of the water
I'm in the process now of sorting, editing &c my images from last year. More to come :) When? Whenever I feel like it :)
