A lot of my comments on my Hidden Faces entry led me to believe there was an interest in how the "face" was achieved. I thought I'd share. This is my entry:

I'm at work, so I don't have the out-of-the-camera original with me, but I have several versions of the face available as outtakes. The first two images on that page are completely different images I considered, the last several are different versions of my entered "face."

This shot is the closest to the original. I have only adjusted contrast, burned the "eyes" and "mouth," and applied USM:

To achieve the moody, dark, ominous look I entered, I applied a PS action called Gothic Glow. I applied it several times, actually, burning and dodging along the way, until I got this surrealistic look. The action enhances contrast, saturation, and allows for either a selected vignette or an all-over, general vignette. I opted for the selective vignette and used the lasso tool to pick out the shape of the face since it was OK under advanced editing rules.

Anyway, it wasn't really exciting or terribly difficult...just some clicking and tweaking. I am quite happy with it's placement and very thrilled with the 20 comments I received. Thanks for being so receptive to some "digital art" as it is. It's not generally my thing at all, but I'm trying new things and experimenting more. Just think, last year at this time I didn't even know PS existed! ;o)
