Googled, looked around here a bit, but didn't find anything. Anyone know if there is software I can load on my Palm that will make it work like an IR remote to control my 300D?

I heard the same months ago and I installed in my Zire71 a couple of programs that they were supposed to work as a i/r remote... I could make them work with my TV but I couldn´t do the same with my Rebel...
If you find a way to make it work... please tell me! ;)

You want to be able to use it like Remote Capture software for PC/Mac works? edit Sorry I mis-understood your post. I would like to see a Palm version of Remote Capture. Or maybe there is?

Maybe I'm mistaken, but I thought the 300D had an IR remote shutter release (as well as a wired remote) you could buy as an accessory. I was wondering if there was software I could put on my Palm to use the 300D's built-in IR remote hardware - without having to buy the official Canon IR remote.

It does have the IR. I'm pretty sure it is the dot you see on the front of the hand grip. I don't own the remote, but from what I hear it's pretty cheap compared to the remotes for the 10D and 20D.

It can only be done with a PocketPC as far as I've heard.

I also read that a cheap $8 Walmart Universal remote will also work. But that link is since dead so I can't refer you to it. It tends to use MGA branded VCR's from what I remember. But I haven't actually tried it yet.

I did a quick search at "Palm one"
and found this program for an ir controler package for the plam
and it has a learning function
so if you can borrow a remote (or use one in a shop) it should be able to learn the correct signals to use with your camera
this package is not fee but with further seaching you may be able to find a fee one
hope this helps

This can be done using a Philips Pronto CCF emulator on your Palm and the CCF file referenced in this thread at remotecentral.com.

thanks to all who replied. but, since the actual remote costs about the same as the software i'd need to buy for the palm, and since my cat isn't being accommodating at all, i think i'll just buy the canon remote. :(

anyone know the difference between the rc-1 and rc-5?
