yeah yeah. thats old news. please tell me why you think macs are inferior? another question, have you ever used a mac? just curious. i find a lot of people have never even touched a mac but are convinced they are total crap just based on what they have heard. i have a couple of friends that use both and really have no preference. i dont want this to be a name calling. i would like to hear some intelligent arguments (i'm sure you can provide some). i get annoyed when people say macs suck but then give no reason why they believe that. what kind of machine are you on clay, and what software are you using for photo editing?

Can you all please continue the personal computer holy war offline? It's not really relevant to the topic.
Thanks -Terry

Thanks Terry! There are a lot of us out there learning a lot from this thread and not interested in the "private chatter". Although "private chatter" is fun sometimes, if short...

LOL .... this cracks me up....
Macs like PC use 96dpi monitors and have been for years..
FYI the pudy CRT monitors on g3's and g4's are Sony Trinatron CRT's exactly the same ones used in Sony trinatron, and high end dell and phillips monitors :-P
Still I like me Dos prompt.. though macOSX on the PC with that linux shell would be tempting since I run alot of windows ports... Why do I choose PC... simple they cost less.... and as far as I see thats the only difference other than personal choice ....
I have used both systems extensivly, I got cheesed when my former educational institute spent about $5k per worktation for mac's that where half as slow as my P3 1gig costing $3k.... they also had to replace all the mice with..... mircosoft ergonomic mice, after serious ergonomic issues where raised about the round mice provided. But at the end of the day they got the job done and didn't crash too often...
Otherwise just get over it... if you wanna bitch go run linux on some hack breed risk processor... see If I care! And leave us ALONE!

Wait. My monitor is 110 dpi. WHERE DOES THIS LEAVE ME?!
The worst thing Apple ever did was decide that a round mouse would be a good idea. Somebody was hittin' the crack pipe on that one.
Every time I sit down at a Mac at work it crashes on me. Maybe it's just my luck, but it's why I like my PC.

Heather,
Just wanted to add my vote for Photoshop or Photoshop Elements. Personally I use photoshop and it's excellent. Elements is a cut-down, much cheaper version that does everything you're likely to need at least until you get your 7mp uber-camera.
If Elements is too expensive then Paint Shop Pro from Jasc software is also very good.
Be warned that Photoshop can be a little tricky to learn at first. But once you've got used to the way it works it's very very powerful and natural to use.
Feel free to post questions on any of these programs here in the forums. There are quite a few of us here that will be able to answer your questions.

with me it is just the opposite. My MAC is way better than my PC which crashes ALL the time. And I don't think MACs are more expensive either.
By the way thanks Gordon for the step by step on photoshop image saving -exactly what I was looking for.

i cant comment on the other editing programs but photoshop has some great tutorials and numerous books that will take you through the basics. there are also some videos available that can guide you through photoshop based on your different levels of knowledge, be it beginner or expert. there are also some good magazines out there as well. the possibilities in photoshop are amazing and can be intimidating. what you need to know to do basic photo editing is fairly simple so dont get discouraged. |
