Do any of you know of other photography sites on the Net (Web, newsgroups, etc) that you would recommend?
Since joining DPC I have periodically scanned the Net looking for other photography sites of similar quality. It may be just me, but it seems clogged with commercial offerings and I haven't found one site remotely close to this one.
Any suggestions you might have would be welcomed.

Try to browse through the old forums -- I think there was a thread just a few weeks ago on this same topic which included MANY links. |

I tried a newsgroup suggested by someone. I know it must not be the only one, but I found that while there were some good photos, it seemed pretty jammed with snapshots. |

www.betterphoto.com
I think that the photos submitted to the contest here are very good. There is also some great feedback from this site.

This Siteis for photography, both digital and traditional. They do not feature weekly contests, but it seems there is generally something to learn there. (DPChallenge, IMHO, is a better learning source for digital, but... you asked!) |

I've been looking around at www.fredmiranda.com for awhile now. I finally entered my first weekly assignment there. They seem to have about 2 or 3 weekly assignments, as well as several weekly challenges. I'm not sure what they consider to be the difference between assingments and challenges.
The quality of work there is incredible! I believe they allow spot editing for the entries.
There seems to be many other areas of the site, which I haven't really checked into. Lots of information here (more than most sites), lots of services, photography related PS actions for sale (and a few for free).
The site is not that easy to get around (maybe once I know it better, it will be easier), but an excellent site. It's one of the best I've seen on the web.

FredMiranda.com... 1 Weekly challenge. The winner receives one of Fred's photoshop actions (10-20 bucks depending I believe)for the win. The challenges are just "put up a picture". No voting or judging, just showing. Really great site but getting real clicky lately. Some people here (like myself) use to post solely on FM.com and have come here as an alternative. All in all a great place.
//www.photo.net - I believe the best on the web for quality of photo's and critiques. No weekly contests but just the best for getting better. If you can't take real, honest critiques, do not post your image there for critiques. They can be brutal but fair.
//www.photosig.com ... Use to be great. Going downhill IMO
//www.shutterfreaks.com . Great bunch of people. Small community but very talented group.
//www.photoblink.com - WOW...
//www.naturephotographer.net the BEST wildlife photography on the net, bar none. Only Nature images on NPN, but still, some of the best out there. Pro nature photographers post there and that is a rarity on the web. I had comments made on one of my shots there by some guy. I went to his site to see who he was and he has won ever award for photography there was. He was very nice about it also.
Jim Zipp posts there who (once again IMO) is the best bird photographer on the planet. //www.fatrobin.com/GtGray1.htm Look at the rest of his images.
If I think of any more I will post em.

Davenit, thanx for those sites, I didn't know some of them.
I really love the following site, there are some really "wow" photos here. It's free to register and you get a lot of helpful critiques for whatever you post.
