This was an outtake for Lines and Circles. (Apologies for previous image, now removed, also an outtake for L&C, which I had forgotten I had entered in a Free Study that month.)

It's so cold here! I know that looks like water, but it's ice.

Quality's iffy but I can't imagine another crop :) Shot this through the windshield as we were coming home yesterday (I was not driving).

I've been in NYC for a couple of weeks. Didn't make it to the Big Tree but saw this one as we were going into Penn Station last night and thought I'd share.
We are headed out tonight, just before the snow storm that's supposed to happen here. |

Last week, I had to make a trip to Sandwich, Cape Cod, where I lived when I first moved to Cape Cod. On the way home I took the slower route back to the bridge over the canal to see the giant lighted sculptures that a local glass blower creates and that are on display during the holiday season.
This one graced the entrance to Sandwich Fire Station: (Poor quality image but I like the overall impact, especially as a thumbnail)

Thank you everyone for posting and commenting so far. These wonderful Square Crop images have really reinforced my appreciation for the 1:1 aspect ratio.
As several people have commented, there is something about the square crop that "contains" the image in a way that portrait and landscape images may not. I notice the difference in the way my eye moves around the image, not straying off to one edge or the other but staying centered, while still taking in everything.
For this month I've set my phone camera default to a 1:1 ratio and that's helped me see what may work and what may not.
I look forward to seeing more images in the remainder of the month, plus any thoughts about square crop images that you'll like to share.
PS. Since, unlike for challenges, the image is not adjusted to fit the screen when displayed, it may help to resize them to 900 pixels before posting.

Took a late autumn hike around a nearby lake yesterday morning trying to see some birds. I was quite successful. I saw several species I hadn't photographed before in the wild--including a pair of bald eagles. I'm still working my way though the session, but this was one of my favorites. Copilot tells me this is a species of woodpecker known as a Northern Flicker.
