here comes the age old question, canon vs nikon? more specifically though i'm not sure what to updgrade to in the next few months and i was wondering what input you all have in this area. i've been shooting with a D1x for almost 2 years now, but it's time for an upgrade. i bought the D1x because I had been shooting nikon film cameras and it was an easy transition, similar setup and same lenses. i love the lenses, but am not impressed with the D1x anymore, although it may be my particular camera. noise has been a bit of an issue in the past few months as well as lack of sharpness. its not a problem with the lenses either because my film comes out perfectly fine. now to get to the point...
should i trade in the D1x for the D2x when it comes out in january and keep my lenses, or make the switch to canon, which would mean trading in everything, including the film cameras.
any input is much appreciated |

I would really like to see what what you mean by lack of sharpness and noise.
Hopefully it not just the getting what's new bug that's going around :) If you upgrade why not stay within the same family of cameras since you probably have most of the gear that would work with upgrade.
The only reason to go with another company is if your current camera has problems in which the company can not solve, does not produce the gear you need, or totally incompentent. |

Unless you have a really good reason why you want to switch to Canon, and are already totally aware of that reason, it probably makes little sense to switch systems. Both vendors sell cameras that are capable of producing professional grade work, so if you're ready to upgrade the body, then go for it. But to switch... If you can't answer the question yourself, then it's just a waste of $$.

If you're going to jump to another camera manufacturer why are you just considering Canon??? It seems that money is no object for you since you're willing to invest in another system that will require all new glass. We're talking megabucks here and you're not going to get all that big a difference in image quality. It sounds like, however, that you are in need of a change so here's what I would recommend. One of two choices. First, buy the new Fuji camera that will be compatible with your current stable of lenses, or...Two, buy the new Mamiya ZD medium format digital SLR with 22 MEGApixsies. I'll bet you'll be the first one on your block to be sporting one of those! Go for it! |

Something is wrong with your camera. You might send it in and have a clean and service done to it. I can't even make mine have noise when I'm trying. Post some pictures showing the problem and show the EXIF data settings. If you cant make the D1X take a sharp picture, there is definitely something wrong. Have you had your eyes checked? |
