I was wondering how to take advantage of the increased file size limit. It has been a while so I am still using the old save for web jpeg and my files are under 500k. Any help is appreciated. Thanks!

Just reset the Save for Web parameter from 700 to 1300 (I like to keep 'em a little under the limit) and you're good to go. Many files do not require the extra size, but large, square images with a lot of detail do. Many of my drone shots come in at 1.6 Mb after resizing and about 89-92% when SFW. An image that's all blue sky will never exceed a few hundred KB, and a highly detailed/colorful image will push the limits.
