I like to see what cameras the winning photos are taken with. Interesting to see that all three ribbons and one honourable mention were shot with phones. The fifth placed photo doesn't have that information available.
I never use my phone's camera (except in shops, when I see something I'm interested in buying, but want to research first) because my hands are very shaky. Maybe I should try using it on occasions that I feel too embarrassed to take my "real" camera out of its bag. |

Wow! That's wild, apparently shadows are just better with a phone? :-)
I am I'm still pretty stoked about managing to snag the blue in the latest free study with my cellphone.

That's a wonderful photo Cory. I wish I could take something half that good with ANY camera. |

Thanks! Honestly luck was a huge part of it - not every day that I snag a baby iguana and force it to model for me. :)
And you do just fine. Check the phone's photo application, some of them (pixel) have settings to help with shake, and will select the best frame from a short video and export it as the image. It's all pretty wild really, but works well.

I agree with Cory, the modern 'phone cameras are really good with helping to get the best possible image in some difficult situations. In particular, the ability to have the 'phone automatically select the best shot (On Pixel it's called Top Shot) is a huge bonus for situations like yours.
I kinda have a love-hate relationship with my Pixel 6's camera. Google seems to think that I want it to always make decisions for me, LOL. Until I started using the Lr camera app, I could not force it to focus to infinity, for instance. That was problematic for taking pics through a microscope, which I do very often for work. |

I doubt my phone has that ability. It's a relatively cheap Samsung which I've had since 2020. I have no intention on upgrading any time soon.
