If you are on windows, just press the Alt key, and hold it.
At the same time, on the numeric keypad on the right, type in 0169
It doesn't work if you use the numbers on the normal keyboard layout.
Has to be the keypad on the right side. |

With the numbers the Beagle suggested you have to first put Num Lock on, and then you hold down AlT and the number in that order on the NUM PAD as opposed to on the regular part of the keyboard. |

Not to confuse the issue more, but the Num Lock state doesn't matter. |

If you really want to have fun, go to Start, Programs, System Tools, Character Map and look what in there. Select, Copy and paste in wherever.
Things like ¢ £ ¤ ¥ ¦ § © ª ¬ ® ° ± µ ¶ ¼ ½ ¾ ¿ plus many more and accented letters too.

Not ALL characters will display in web formats and programs - depends on character encoding and some other "tech" stuff.

(disclaimer: posting from Win 98SE machine with Logitech Wireless keyboard)
When working with windows, under settings, set you keyboard language to English (US) and the layout option to US (International).
When it works as it should you get é by just typing 'e right after eachother (I made 'e by hitting space after '). The downside can be that you have to double space after certain symbols.
'e = é, (á, ó, etc)
`e = è
~a = ã
"o = ö
^a = â
'c = ç
The € is Ctrl+Alt+5 on mine.
© = ctrl+alt+c
® = ctrl+alt+r
ß = ctrl+alt+s
ø = ctrl+alt+o
etc etc etc
