Itâs too bad that the challenge is both Archival and Minimal. I rarely if ever shoot JPEGs, so I canât use anything in my archive for this one. |

I'd say somewhat less than "perfect" since whether a "substance" is illegal depends on where you live -- I believe in Singapore (for example) chewing gum is "illegal" ...

Also, when rankled, holding your breath until you faint. Chuckling at funerals. Picking your nose while on live TV.
Oh, wait, those are actually legal, just foolish, gauche and ugh.
So the subset, bad habits, is good to go.
Just diddling about... |

I did in fact dither over this... I know a lot of folks, myself included, don't shoot JPEG regularly. The flip side was, I wanted to give registered users a chance at a minimal challenge. |

ROFL!
My wife, for one, does not appreciate it when I dither! Come to think of it, my boss doesn't either... |

Touche!
In fact, years ago I had a boss at work who had the same first name as my wife... |

I just took it as a dare! :D. It definitely stretches me to shoot jpg instead of raw when I know I can do any necessary tweaks after the fact. So here's to accepting the dare. :)

What about submitting the original unaltered raw? |

RAW images are necessarily post-processed when converting to JPEG -- Minimal editing requires all settings to be made prior to actuating the shutter.
My camera doesn't shoot RAW at all, but if it did I would always choose the RAW+JPEG option and set the JPEG to DPC-sized images. It takes just a little effort to set up, uses very little storage space (certainly relative to the RAW files), makes it quick and easy to review, and gives you the option of using them in a situation like this. You can always delete any you are sure you'd never submit here.
Also, remember that just because archival images are allowed, they are not required -- set your camera to RAW+JPEG and go out and shoot something today ... :-) |

That wonât work. I accidentally submitted an unaltered RAW image in a minimal challenge. Won the Blue Ribbon but was DQâd for not submitting the JPEG. There was actually a very slight difference in the appearance of the 2 that one could not see unless holding them up side by side. |
