yeah, my first ever DQ in 14.5 years and 519 challenges... What happened was that I misread the submission starting day for the recent Photographing Photographers II challenge and thought that my recent photo was taken within the allowed window. Right after I uploaded it, I got a message that the photo was taken before the start date, and so it was not eligible. I immediately stopped the submission (did not even get to changing the title) and assumed that the submission was terminated. Imagine my surprise when I saw it in voting a couple of days later with a very intriguing title "P4020465a_w" :). I wanted to write to the SC right away, but then I hesitated, since it was doing very well, and I was curious to see the reaction to it (I did get a few very nice comments over the next several days, some even pegging it for blue). But of course I didn't want to take away any screen time from the legal winners, so I asked SC to DQ it on the last day before the rollover. I believe no harm was done by my procrastination :).
For the future, perhaps a simple change in the submission system should be made, so in a case like this if the photo deemed ineligible by the system for whatever valid reason (time stamp, resolution etc), it should be discarded right away.
Oh, since, it turns out, after self-DQ (unlike a regular DQ) a photo disappears completely from the site, I decided to re-upload it into my portfolio. Here it is

Was it actually taken before the submission date? The site has some bugs regarding dates at the very beginning and end of the submission period. |

Yes, I also noticed these bugs. But in this case it actually was taken 2 days before, otherwise I wouldn't have requested self-DQ ;) |

OK -- glad it was a "legitimate mistake" ... :-)
Nice effect with the contrast between the moving and still figures! |

I switched the self-DQ to a regular DQ, which it should have been anyway, really, at Lev's request. The image is now visible, along with its comments.

Now if Tanguera and Lydia can repost their comments on the actual entry, Lev will have everything in one place :-) |
