What i like about this photo is that it indeed conveys the atmosphere of a street musician playing something that touches you. Composition is also ok, imo, with nice diagonals and a few lines going through all the right spots. Although i guess i would zoom in more to get a better look at the face, and only keep a little of the guitar itself, but not the right hand, but that's extremely subjective.
What i don't like about it is blown highlights and generally too much contrast. But that's what you get for shooting portraits in the sun. It's actually pretty hard and definitely non-trivial.
I would try two things, personally: taking the same picture on a cloudy day with soft ambient light, or, ideally, with just a little sun through some clouds; or, using a fill-in flash (which i don't think was used here) and trying to carefully balance the camera settings, paying attention not to blow the highlights and not to send the shadows into complete blackness. Your camera can show you a histogram of the picture once it is taken, the distribution should be even without a lot of shadows and a lot of highlights, and without extreme peaks anywhere.
All my personal opinions, and i'm not a pro by any means and not even close to that, so take them or leave them. hth. |
