Choose one of the provided RAW files - portrait, landscape, nature or street. Edit it in any way you like.
Expert editing.
This is just an idea of how we could have a challenge that rates PP rather than the original. |

Sounds interesting. Who would provide the original? |

Just want to point out that not everyone has hardware/software to process RAW images -- perhaps provide a TIFF version as an alternative.
FWIW we have done this in side challenges before. |

There isn't a need for secrecy so the links could be posted here and I could use my judgment and choose the 4 files. Or we could have a group of member selectors.
If there are no providers of RAW I could provide my own but I would have extremely little choice for the Portrait file! :)
The objective of this challenge is to focus on PP. If the RAW files are challenging that's probably not a bad thing.
If you think it is an interesting challenge, post the links to your RAW files now! I think in this case there should be no restriction on "never used on DPC before" because the challenge is to seek alternative edits that have not been entered before. In this case the owner would not be able to enter the original edit of the previously entered image.
I hope it is not too confusing? |

Side Challenge does not offer direct rating nor the virtual ribbons recorded in profiles. |

I think the General means that some people are unable to process a RAW file, so they would automatically be excluded. RAW files can be converted to TIFF so that most people would be able to process them.
I'd like to see a bit more interest from the membership before we start providing raw files :) |

Yes, I meant post both versions so everyone could participate, even though those working with TIFF files would have fewer editing options than those who can "develop" the RAW files with custom settings.
I think people might consider images to use, but I don't think they should be posted until/unless the challenge is actually scheduled so that some people don't get a head start. |

I ran one of these a few years ago - it was a hoot. |

Sounds like fun and with the new 2 week window for challenges I might find time to participate! The additional requirements should include posting photographer's notes with editing steps. Then it becomes a learning tool as well as a challenge

I can recall only Side Challenges. Was it on DPC? |

I would prefer RAW and JPEG. I think lack of capability to process RAW is probably rare on DPC?
The links to the images could be PM'd to me but I think that extra time on this should not matter. I would like to enter too! |

Fine as long as the JPEG setting isn't lossy ... TIFF with LZW compression is about the same size and lossless. |

I'm not sure how the original RAW file selection and submission would work. I'm not sure that sending them to a member is kosher procedure. They may have to be sent to SC somehow, so that they are a "surprise" to everyone, including you, Margaret, since you want to participate :) |

if i recall the previous PP Challenge side challenges... we all submitted an image, then somebody did a down-select to come up with the 9 or 10 that would be used. |

That's right but my suggestion is to make it a normal challenge. |

I can't process RAW. I think I prefer the General's suggestion. |
