Panasonic released a new Post-Focus feature in a firmware update. Take a picture, and choose the focus point later!

HOW?

I'm familiar with the Lytro cameras...but I presumed that required special hardware.

How the heck can they do it with a firmware upgrade? Anyone know what they are doing?

It looks to me as if the camera must be shooting burst mode and racking focus as it does so. I'd wager this only works in JPG mode and you have to save your preferred version before moving on to the next shot. I could be wrong about that last bit though... Or all of it for that matter.

You are right...I found an explanation on DPReview. It takes advantage of 4k with 30 frames per second. This limits it to an 8MP file, but it has a lot of interesting uses, including the ability to use the frames for focus-stacking.

This would be awesome, especially for macro... IF ONLY IT WERE ON THE LX100! Grumble...grumble...grumble

I'll just have to keep my fingers crossed for now.

Yes, I have an FZ1000 which has 4K and so far it's not promised there either, because there's no touch screen.

But it can actually be used without a touchscreen by exporting the 30 or so frames to your computer, per the article.

Maybe I don't know how things work but wouldn't it be easier to have the camera take a shot with everything in focus and have an in-camera function like Nik's bokeh filter to choose the focus area?

I'm aware of how to manually focus stack, but how are you supposing to make the camera automatically scan the scene and progressively focus through it, if your camera doesn't support the firmware?
