And, what about Windows Photo Viewer?
If I'm understanding correctly it is no longer the default viewer, and the only way to recover it is with a registry edit. Yikes! The dreaded regedit? Really?
What has been the experience with this issue within the DPC community?
Thanks in advance. |

I've no direct experience, but from what I've read, if you can manually open any file in Photo Viewer, it should then appear as a choice under "Open With" and you can set it as the default. One word of caution; while Photo viewer is convenient, its management of color is absolutely awful. You'd be better off with almost anything else. |

Click on Win icon (start)>Settings>System>Default app Scroll to find Photos and pick your default
My first annoyance with Win 10 is the fact that you can't control the updates. There are workarounds on Win 10 Pro but I run the Home edition.
My T100 (tablet netbook hybrid) just updated my touch pad and I lost functionality. I had to reinstall manually the previous version. Now I wait for the system to upgrade it automatically again. This issue had been reported on forums as well.
Otherwise I am really happy with it and I had installed it on my main computer (also Asus laptop NJ550V) |

If you want to quickly view, do minor editing, or batch-process photos, I like using IrfanView -- it works on any version of Windows you're likely to have (apparently it doesn't work on W '98 anymore)*, and is fast and free.
*Looked at the FAQs -- which say it works with any version back to Windows 95 ...

I don't know what got into me. I upgraded to WIN 10 last night. I uninstalled Chrome & switched to Microsoft's browser. Uninstalled Rhapsody & reinstalled it. Remembered all my passwords. I had some kind of weird problem with a graphic-something-or-other in WIN 7 that has disappeared with WIN 10, so...so far, so good. I am cautiously happy. |

Win 10 all the way. No regrets. Runs nice and smooth. I also have a Surface Pro 3 - perfect match. |

Been using it since it came out due to the fact my Surface Pro 3 came with Windows 8 and anything had to be better than that.
All in all I like it. My only complaint would be that there's still two different control panels, which I think of as the simple one and the complete one, and sometimes it's hard to find the option you want.
Oh and Cortana and Scottish accents, but that's hardly unusual. Google is the only speech recognition to date which does a decent job! |

I've been running it on the desktop system that I built in September of 2015, and it has been pretty much flawless. My only real application issue is with Chrome, for which color management seems to be broken. This seems to be related to the fact that I have a custom monitor profile, which surely should *not* break anything, however in my case it does. the Edge browser is actually very good, so I'm not even sure I will take the trouble to figure out the issue with Chrome, except that the not knowing drives the engineer in my nuts, LOL.

Well darn. Installing it on my laptop & ACCIDETALLY (I can't explain it) I interrupted Setup. Now, it seems stuck. Oh no. |

Try just letting it be for a while, even a couple hours. I have seen what looks like a stall turn out not to be one.

This is on my to-do list, but it seems to require that I disable or uninstall my anti-virus (Symantec) entirely to continue with the installation, which I'm not comfortable doing for any period of time -- especially as it's been blocking port scan attacks periodically.
Am I just being paranoid? |

Perhaps. I'm not sure why you would be getting port scan attacks if you are behind a firewall. Any good, modern router should have a hardware firewall that should not be allowing that kind of thing; the internal addresses should be invisible. I wonder if what Symantec is seeing as an attack is something on your local network that is being interpreted as a port scan? the cynic in me says that it is in the virus software's best interest to be over-reporting.
I can tell you that I run *no* third-part virus protection. I rely on the in-build Windows Defender, in conjunction with my hardware firewall. Of course, I am also relatively careful about my behavior on the 'net.

FWIW we installed Win !0 on my new machine from the get-go and have had zero issues with it. Still using Chrome, too :-) Seems to be a first-rate operating system. |

I've been putting off installing Windows 10 because I was advised to wait for service pack 1 - not sure if it's been released yet. Now after seeing your comment I'm thinking I need to upgrade my modem first, just in case I get the same thing about installing my anti-virus. The modem I'm using is pretty old and probably not as reliable as it should be, but there are so many things I need to buy (new monitor since my good one died, new 3-in-1 printer scanner) that I can't decide what to buy first.

Yep. Got back, & sure enough the next step was on the screen. Now for another long wait. I did the pc last night, late, & snoozed thru most of it.

Don't take my word as Gospel........ I am merely a "user" and not an expert.
I got Windows 10 ages ago and I love it. The installation was the easiest ever......... I sat through the whole thing, expecting to be needed. Turns out I wasn't needed until the very end........ everything up until the very last few bits happened flawlessly. After that, it just needed my input on a few bits - easiest upgrade ever - I could have gone for that long walk/sleep, after all.
Since then, whatever has been wrong with my computer just seems normal to me. I don't remember ever having a computer where everything worked 100% perfectly, 100% of the time. I just always assumed that computers were never perfect, and needed help/fixing/input/updates/etc as a matter of course.
So, I guess that maybe Windows 10 isn't a miracle, but I do love it.

I've got both my computers upgraded from WIN7 to WIN10, snoozing thru most of it. I like it. Especially, right, now, because all the little things that needed fixing, like whatever was wrong with the graphic...got fixed. I uninstalled/reinstalled Rhapsody to the newest version & switched from Chrome to MS Edge. Done!
So, I recommend it. |

How easy is it to export bookmarks etc from Chrome to Edge? Especially all the saved logins, I'd just about die if I had to re-key all those :-) |

You know, I don't know. All my bookmarks are in my head--organic memory. Hope someone chimes in who does. I don't want you to die!!!!
My logins are easy to remember--I created a logical system for logins that makes it easy on me & also secure & also adaptable to changing password requirements.

Really easy. In Edge, at top right click More (the ellipsis) and click Settings. Under Settings choose View Favorites Settings, Choose which browser to import from and click Import. You can also choose to set the Favorites Bar to viewable. Should be all you need to do. Now, with regard to all the login settings, I really don't know how much will come over. Let us know what you find out.
ETA: Looks like the login settings will translate, guessing that is all stored in cookies.
