What is the largest number of photos you have ever shot in one day?

I was at an air show today (will post some pics in about 3 years when I've been through them ;) and found I ended up with ....

1100 photos!!!!!!!!

Approximately 1000 of which were in a 3.5 hour period.

Loads of repeats, heaps to delete, but when I added them up ... wow!

Certainly gave the 20D a run for its money on my first trip out with it *laugh*

when I went to a convention in July, I took about

2,000 images on one day.

3,000+ images for the 5 days of the convention.

1,600 from one pannel.

WOW, in the thousands....

I thought I did a lot in one day when the National SuperMoto race came to town. I only had 2 X 128Mb cards and 1 X 16Mb I filled them up a couple of times and had to come home half way through to download them.

I did get a couple of photo's printed in the local press which made it worthwhile.

Here's a few of them...

Digital is simply crack. I got my 300D mid-March this year, and just last weekend turned over my 30,000th click. I've had at least 5 1000-click days during this time.

A lot of it has been either pure crap, or learning/practice shooting, but I've also pulled down a lot of stuff I'm happy with.

I heavily subscribe to the ABS Rule: Always Be Shooting. You regret what you miss if you don't, and you can always throw it away later.

My best is 700 plus, at a National meet of the 'Sealed Knot Society' who re-entact battles from the English civil war.

Filled the 1Gig CF, and almost got to fill the 4Gig Microdrive, shooting RAW all the time.

1000 photos in a day is crazy!!!

I guess it's my film background, but I can't remember the last time I took more than 500 after a full day of shooting. I've always gone with the idea of quality over quantity, take the time to setup your shot carefully before you shoot.

For a day of hiking or driving around I'm pretty happy if I've filled up 2 512MB cards (~160 photos in RAW). For a typical wedding I take around 300-400, I shoot a good 300 during long events, around 100 for most portrait shoots, and usually no more than 100-150 for sporting events.

It's so cool to hear that there are people who are worse about this than I am. ;-) I have had my 300D for barely over 2 months and just passed 5000 pictures. It averages out to around 75 shots a day. I've taken about 500 shots in a day several times, but never in the thousands! Gives me something to shoot for, so to speak.

I'm all in favour of shooting rathing than hanging onto the shutter release and waiting for it to get better. I've done that a few times and missed the shot.

But what do you do with a thousand shots! How do you find the time to review them and sort them out? If only some of them need manipulation you'll be there for ever. Might not be a bad idea but I have to work as well to pay for new hardware/software.

Most shots for me with digital would be around 90. I have had the camera since June and my files are on something like 12xx now. Haven't been shooting much. Also, I don't think I will be shooting anything more than 200 a day.

it's all relative. digital makes it sooo easy to get out of your comfort zone, to explore new areas of photography that you really do have to shoot a lot, exploring all the settings in order to learn what really works from one situation to the next.

also, at a concert or sporting event, it's quite easy to pop 2-3 shots a minute. walking through an event crowd with 100+ vendors and 40,000+ attendees, it's really easy to find 2-300 interesting images in a short time. some of them you like, some you don't. some are just to learn from. all the same, it doesn't cost anything to capture something that you might have missed while waiting for the perfect shot.

When I shoot weddings, I shoot between 800 and 1100. On my best non-working day, I would say 500 or so.

My largest was about 850 during a 3 or 4 hour swim meet. I also subscribe to the "why not take it, you can always delete it later if you don't want it" philosophy that others have mentioned here. Yeah, it does take a while to sort thru them all later, but not THAT much time...

I would say that most phots on one day for me is about 5000... It's very easy when you are on a large event that has lot of things happening ;)

Oy - yeah, the 3,000+ images almost filled my card. I had room for about 800 more on the lowest setting, but I didn't want to push it. (4GB Microdrive) I have issues with RAW. Simply, my software doesn't recegnize it. But that's a thread of a whole different topic.

Just because someone takes a lot of images, doesn't mean they don't compose their shots. I'm not going to waste my time downloading and opening a shot that's not going to be something I want to keep. I just take multiple shots, multiple angles, in case something happens to the shot, or there's a different thing I can accomplish digitally by merging the shots.

All depends on the environment you are in.

This was at an airshow. You have no idea what is going to happen when, or exactly how good your shot is going to be as the formation flying zooms overhead .... so best practice is to take all the photos you can and then go through them later with the delete button.

Good luck taking your time and carefully setting up the shot when there's an F111 coming over at 500 knots doing a "dump & burn" ;)

I just took at least 400 photos yesterday and in order to get the 480 (102 from previous days and 378 from yesterday) on my cards, I ended up having to delete around 50-100 photos to make space. I had it on continuous so I was getting about 2-3 shots per photo and I had to go back and delete the "bad" doubles to make room throughout the day.

EDIT: And this was in JPEG format of 8 MP photos on a 256 MB and 1 GIG cards... (there were accidentally 4 or 5 RAW files in there too).

I took 680 photos at my sister's wedding on my old HP Photosmart 315 back in the day.. I doubt, with the new camera, I'll ever get more than that. I just don't have the storage.

Hi Terje,
should I understand what are you saying here...??? Was it your turn to play the welcome committee today, if I judge by your abundant politeness???
