I went to my kids' soccer games tonight with my new Canon S1 that I purchased in June. The fields were lit with bright lights. I set my camera to "Sports" mode which normally sets the shutter speed to 1/250. However, I noticed tonight that the shutter speed in this mode was 1/80. This made all of the pictures I took of the players running very blurry.

What gives? I thought this sports mode was 1/250. Why did it change to 1/80? Was it because of the lighting?

(I did think to switch my camera to "Tv" which allowed me to set the speed to whatever I wanted. 1/125 was the best I could manage without the photo becoming too dark.)

Please help. How can I improve these type photos?

When you find out let me know! I'm finding any kind of action (e.g. motion-panning) is almost impossible with the EVF system. I haven't really tried any of the specialty modes yet -- mostly been in program mode with exposure compensation as the only adjustment off that.

If you figure out how to get some good shots you can post a How-To article here : )
