why are you tethering it to your speedlight? just put the radio transceiver in the hotshoe. |
Actually did just locate the port, so glad it's there...and just so I know that I can tether it. I wouldn't have minded having a little more light in certain areas when I was playing around, but only have two baffles so just used a snood on the third light but don't think it helped much, too small an area :-/ Ah well I'm figuring things out as I go along, with my best friend Dave's help - he's an excellent handyman - - we got the softbox assembled. So now I can use it too!
Oh yes apparently the baffles can be used with the umbrellas...there is a slot in the side of the baffles and apparently you put the rod of the umbrella through it and into the slot on the side of the strobe head. |

i see, i find it easier to just set the speedlight to a slave and set it off optically or get a radio trigger for it so you dont have wires all over the place. the one provided looks just like the cowboy studio triggers.
and yes the baffle has a slot for an umbrella to help you control light spill when using an umbrella. |

I know it could be more cumbersome with another cable snaking across the floor, but that's why gawd invented painter's tape ;-) I hear what you're saying, Mike, I tend to learn best by just mucking around with as many different options as I can til I figure out what works best for me, and same goes for pretty much everything I do! :-) |

Thanks esp MattO on the tether cord, though now I need to find where on the SB-910 that cord end goes...yes I did originally try to find a compatible port for it on the D7100 body but there isn't one.
I can see that I need to remove the baffle to mount up the softbox, but now I need to figure out how to assemble the softbox and attach it to the strobe head.
@ kiwinick...the diagrams help a little but I still can't see where/how the ends of the struts of mine go to attach to the elastic end of the box and/or metal ring Frustrating, cause there are so few pieces but the most crucial ones are the ones that make no sense! |
the rods have to bend to go in the metal ring its confusing but once done never forgotten!!!! |

@ kiwinick...once we, or rather Dave, figured out that half of the softbox's struts are closed at one end and the other half are open til the flap of velcro is closed over them, and you have to alternate the order in which you put the rods in, all made sense. Though I take the credit for finding the holes in the outer ring of the metal thingy :-) And I made sure I took apart the softbox and put it back together so I now know how to do it.
Thanks all for your help, now all I have to do is get a lot of practice in. |

Quick question...looking to buy the following item...(sorry don't have time to parse linky) Interfit INT484 36Inch Octobox Softbox
Says in the comments that...'octobox came with an s-type speed ring. It is good to note that this could also be used for Bowens monolights.'
So what I want to know is, will it fit my strobeheads is what I want to know as they are Bowens-compatible. |

Sounds like it'll fit, but do they accept returns if it doesn't?
Softboxes are pretty cool. Haven't gotten much mileage out of mine but it comes in handy sometimes. I'd probably use it more if I had a battery pack for the strobe light. |

The listing says fitting is for EX and EXD, is either one of those Bowens-compatible? |
