I think I set sail in a colander, frankly. I've lined it as best I can with old posts ripped out of the archives and pasted over the holes, and my head's still above water, but there better be an end of this voyage soon, and a golden bird to welcome us all when we make landfall...

ah, many have been to sea in a sieve; who but a serious cook would set sail in a colander.

I rode a wonderful wind yesterday, and then was hit by a real maelstrom overnight and today. Dropped .3

Missed this entry by 9 secs...I left it to late because I had a totally blank mind, then had an idea, by the time I got the props ready and took the shots and edited it....I was not happy with the slight slant of the canvas, so took the shot over and over and overrrrrr...was still not happy but wanted to enter what I thought was the best of the lot...just to get some feed back. and hit the upload button, missed it by 9 secs. on another note there are some very fine photos on this one. will vote on all except one....my darling wife's entry. we never vote on each other's photos to keep it fair. good luck to all who entered, and to the people who just give very low votes to others photos....what's with you lot???

The great majority of DPC voters seem to reward crisp, clean photography and obvious solutions to posed challenges. Another subset that does well is the arbitrary imposition of a misty/soft layer on the highlights of the above, a "romantic" veneer as it were.

Few, if any, of these images would ever be favorably reviewed by "serious, artistic" photographers, especially not by the "contemporary art scene".

You can take it as a working hypothesis that most low votes on DPC-Challenge-Winning images are registered by individuals whose aesthetic inclinations are more aligned with cutting-edge contemporary photography than with the DPC brand of romantic realism. And they are entitled to their viewpoint, I know you'd agree.

Feel better now? :-)

"The great majority of DPC voters seem to reward crisp, clean photography and obvious solutions to posed challenges." indeed.

I would have rated these images the same if they were in a FS. I just vote on how they AFFECT ME and don't put much thought into anything else.

I did not enter this challenge but I just finished voting. All I can say is

W O W!

These are some of the most beautiful images I have ever seen. Great job.

You have rated 58 of 58 images (100%) in this challenge.
You have commented on 34 images (59%) in this challenge.
You have given an average score of 7.0000.

This is serious reading folks - (I underlined some fragments) . Only that the low votes come sometimes from people who believe that lowering their votes would benefit their image.
(More often than not, every word from the Bear needs to be in bold letters)

Don't you think that after 60 to 80 votes and having a low average is not fair enough. Accept the fact that not everyone like the same thing(s). This is a challenge. give the best for that challenge and wait for the outcome. I really appreciate to have so many people voting on my pictures, I learn everyday and since I joined DPC actively in April this year I participated on all the challenges. 6 months ago I didn't know where I was standing with my pictures. Now I am really more careful with many details. All this because I got low votes.

I was in the 4.9's for a little while, but it's taking on water and heading for the bottom.

Just be thankful it's not like the old free studys, 600+ submissions.

It took me so long to load one image back then, I had spotty 56k dial-up until like 2007, then it was spotty 1.5mbit DSL. So spoiled now with cable, it's almost instant.
