The robots are coming here! I've always been aware of this since the proliferation of Texas Instruments calculators in the 70's. At least robots won't replace creativity. ...or will they?? Pretty interesting and sobering video (15 min.). Doesn't offer any optimistic advice or solutions though. I can see the paradox of automating everyone out of a job, but then automated goods and services will not be affordable, thereby making themselves pointless. I'd be all for machines doing everything for us if it meant we could all have a high standard of living and do whatever the hell we want. Not sure how that can work, but doesn't sound implausible - at least not for a dreamer. :)

Hmmm, nothin huh? Maybe you've all already been replaced and your replacement robots are trying to maintain a low profile while they amass, organize and develop their plans to enslave us. ...or maybe this post just slipped by you. :) |

Maybe we didn't even notice this 'cuz we're old and decrepit?
I always used to wonder about the paradox m'self when I read classic SF, and the robots are doing EVERYTHING and I'm thinking "But how are the people getting PAID?" Then I got smart and realized that if the government can pay farmers NOT to grow crops, it's just a small step to paying people NOT to produce, but to CONSUME...
Think about it... |

This would be a very amusing challenge, don't you think? Consider where & how we might encounter the next robot & illustrate it with a photo.

How timely. My roommate just showed me Jibo and I was sitting in my seat wincing and squealing like I was watching a horror movie.

Definitely a conundrum... the more humans there are, the more we seem bent on inventing machines to replace us. |
