Post your outtakes from the 10 Second Exposure challenge here.

I'm not one to complain, but I honestly did not think my entry deserved the low score it got. I suspect damjanev nailed it, but I don't get it. There was absolutely nothing in the challenge title or description that said the image had to LOOK as if it was taken with a 10 second exposure - just that it had to BE taken with one. Which mine was - in a very dim basement of an antiques store. Or maybe people just don't like mannequins??

entry
outtake - which I'm sure would have done just as badly

Although both images might've scored low due to voters' expectations, I like your outtake better than your entry. It's got a nice soft sepia tone, good composition and nice lighting. I also don't find mannequins particularly attractive but that may just be me..

Thanks much :) My husband much preferred the outtake, too, but my team and I liked the drama of the mannequin. I really appreciate the input.

No problem! :)

ShaneBlake, I've commented on the images individually.

That may be true, but I think most would agree that it certainly isn't in the spirit of the challenge, in fact, it pretty much just works around the singular criteria. If the challenge was "Take a shot at night", what would be the point of the challenge if everyone simply took a shot inside a studio at night.

If the primary challenge criteria makes absolutely no difference to your image, then have you really met the challenge?

I honestly did try to honor the spirit of the challenge. The challenge was "10 Second Exposure". That's all. IMO there was absolutely no other "criteria" or "spirit" or "intention" implied, much less stated. I honestly did think the challenge was to think of all the reasons one might select a longer exposure and then take a photo in one of those situations. So I did. My choice was "low light". And I thought my entry looked as if it had been taken in low light. I was not trying to "work around" anything. Obviously I was mistaken. Thank you and others who, here and privately, have cleared up the mystery for me.

I didn't enter but was playing with fiber optics.

Thanks in hindsight I haven't entered a challenge since last year so I didn't pull the trigger I did learn a lot about semi long exposures.

Very cool and unique shot. I think it would have done quite well in the challenge.

I wish you would have.. that was an awesome shot! Love it

Not really an outtake I guess, since it was the shot I specifically took for the challenge.

I was part of a group shoot on the Friday before and the model was up for trying some long exposures by the water. Her eyes did get pretty large though when I told her I needed 10 seconds ;-) Unfortunately, I spent the weekend editing a large set of pics from a gymnastics competition, so I left that image till the last day. Then I ended up working late on Tuesday evening and never got a chance to edit and enter it.

Too bad, the model was quite the trooper. Lying on a rock, in the rain, at around 9:30AM and doing her best to hold still for a long time. Plus, it would be two challenges in a row, a big step up from my ~1 per year!

Ah, probably would have gotten hammered for the nudity anyway.

I tried to make my entry look as much like a "normal" photo as I could.
My main outtake was an attempt to shoot a crow on a wire, but I ended up using that for some Flip/Blend variations instead.
