Well, I've got a bit of free time. This is a photography forum; however, I'm not necessarily looking for a photography book - just a good one. Has anyone had a really satisfying read lately? TV is starting to dull my imagination.
Here's my recommendation - The Student Conductor, by Robert Ford. The first paragraph reads:
"Barrow woke to the hard yank of an oncoming train and caught the whisper of the last orange car as it passed. Outside, the German sun flung itself in all directions, glanced from the rails, perfected clouds. It was the kind of day they polish steel for."
That sort of paragraph makes it hard to stop reading. I could use another book like that.

On the Edge of Darkness by Barbara Erskin
Other titles by this author - Whispers in the Sand, Lady of Hay
Light fun reading: Any Amelia Peabody mystery by Elizabeth Peters
Excavation by James Rollins
Sinai by William Smethurst or Pasiphae by the same author.

If you love good writing, try Sahara Unveiled by William Langewiesche. Or try Young Men and Fire by Norman Maclean. These are both non-fiction and a bit off the beaten track, but the quality of writing is exceptional! |

Love almost all of Ann Rice's novels. She does a vampire series that is excellent. The movie "Inverview with a Vampire" was based on one of her books. She also does a "witch" series ... which is very intense.
If you ARE looking for a good book on stock photography, I highly recommend Rohn Engh's Sell and Re-Sell Your Photos. |
