I have to say that this thread is just rife with the kind of snide, borderline insulting remarks I have been trying to get people tone back on ... no one seems to be able to just give a straight response without slipping a little dig about the other person's intelligence, judgement, or morals. I'm not sure that's the best approach to attracting new participants or invigorating and inspiring the photographic efforts of current members.
Sorry for being so petty ... |

Is anyone willing to provide the Cliff's notes on what this drama is all about? â€Â¦ I'm only in-and-out of DPC on occasion but geez what am I missing? |

Sure you can -- the thread is right here. Note that not all the jokes are in "good taste" and that several were contributed by myself ... :-)
However, that's not the same as sniping at each other in what should be a civilized discussion. Imagine if I'd responded to your post like this:

"Your very presence in this thread belies that statement."
Not all that useful, eh? I just think there's been an epidemic of people commenting on each other instead of sticking to the topic at hand, and that it is both unnecessary and dispiriting.
Maybe we should go post a few new jokes and improve the state of affairs in the forums ...

Please read Forum Rule #11 (though the others may prove equally surprising enlightening, if not enlivening). |

When encountering suspected (or confirmed, for that matter) spam postings, the site has repeatedly requested that people use the provided Report Spam button and not reply in the thread itself. Some number of people have continued to refuse to follow this policy, to the detriment of site functionality.
To violate that policy should in and of itself deserve a(nother) request to desist, however posting something which also constituted its own violation of the Forum Rules is to me just additional confirmation of the need to take action.
Notice, I did not censor/edit any posts, I didn't suspend anyone, I didn't keep anyone for posting in the forums, in fact I didn't do anything except point out that the gentleman involved stood in violation of the rules, and that if the conduct continued consequences could ensue. I certainly didn't propose that the site should engage in a pogrom popularity contest, with the loser facing involuntary banishment.
I guess we all just have different definitions of "petty" ... :-( |

c'mon really? spambots? people are just having a little fun, no need to keep reminding people of the rules we know what they are and dont care, for the most part we play nice together. whats wrong with just deleting the thread. its the little things and DPC is losing more and more of the little things that make this place fun.
Langdon's going to be losing another paying customer in two months. you'd think he'd see the mass exodus going on and make the changes to stop it.

Who says it just for new users? Some of us older users are tired of some of the juvenile bulls#%t coming from the forums. Some people need to grow the f*%k up. GeneralE was doing his job...a job he doesn't get paid to do either. |

Funny, I didn't even know I was in a duel.
I don't think I was the one who escalated things out of proportion. If Slippy thought my post was out of line, he should have hit the Report Post button and turned me in like he would any other jerk who posts something inappropriate ... oh, wait, I forgot, Mr. self-appointed vigilante doesn't use those buttons, preferring to take executive action on his own ... and then, when the other site moderators told him the duel was off (actually I don't know what they told him) he has a fit and takes his attitude and goes home.
Besides, he's the geologist -- I've only had one college course in it and they didn't even cover the construction of molehills, much less mountains. Of course, his specialty is in the deconstructive activities of the Earth's crust ... :-( |
