Hello,
I am new to this site. So i'll give some quick info about me. My photography experience is very minimul. However I LOVE photography and everything that goes along with it. Everywhere I go, I look at things and imagine them as a picture. I have great ideas for pictures. Only problem is, I don't know jack about photography.
So my first question is about my camera. Ok, it's my mom's camera. It's a Fujifilm Finepix 3800. Does anyone own this camera? Can anyone tell me the pros and cons of this camera? Any other info anyone can give me about how to edit a picture after I get it on my computer would be great too.

Thanks
O.M. aka TJ

P.S. I want to be the best.

Hehe.. well, just remember, the camera may be *capable*, but a fine photographer can bring the best out of almost any camera.

All I can suggest for you is practice, practice practice.. go through the profiles of other users of your camera on this site.. check out their photographs, look at the details of how they pulled the shot off and the technical aspects, and then start doing it on your own. A good deal of learning can be had if you only look for it! :)

Hi Travis, you couln't have chosen a better place to really learn and hone your photographic talents. When I joined two years a go, I didn't know an f-stop from a short-stop. Welcome and I look forward to seeing your first blue ribbon!(I have yet to get one myself but that's beside the point).

Hey TJ,
My first digital camera was also the 3800. And you can get some really good pics from it. Learn to use the manual features on it. The big feature of the3800 is the aperture priority you can select auto, F2.8, F4.8, and F8.2. This is where you can get creative with this camera although it is somewhat limited it’s a good start.

I read the manual and really didn't get that much from it. So here is how I figured out
A. priority (F STOP)
with 3 sets of 4 pics. 3 different subjects 1 pic on each setting.
Pic 1 a close subject 1 foot away
Pic 2 a portrait from about 5 feet away
Pic 3 a landscape
Take them in the same order each time (I even wrote on a note pad the shot, settings, and image#) upload them and look over each one you will see the differences.

Other good adviceâ€Â¦use a tripod whenever you can, always shoot in 3M-F, carry an extra memory card and batteries, and have fun

Thank you for the replies.

What's F-Stop?
And can anyone tell me what all this means?
When I bring up the "Quality" menu, I get
3M-F 13
3M-N 29
2M 43
1M 54
0.3M 137

F Stop is the size of the aperture How BIG F2.8 to how small F8.2 and adjusts the amount of light let into the camera.

3M-F 13 = 3mega pixels - fine quality 13 pictures can be taken (BEST)
3M-N 29 = 3mega pixels - normal quality 29 pictures can be taken (good)
and so on....

Like I said do the test shots and you will understand better how it effects the results

Welcome to dpc TJ. That 3800 is a fine camera. Was my first digicam and now my sister uses it. Great pictures without the need for a lot of editing. If you don't already have it you can download the manual here: Fujifilm 3800
Looking forward to seeing some challenge entries from you. Good Luck.
