If you get much feedback on the "Global warming" question, this will probably be another thread consigned to the rant forum. But I realize that you couldn't resist adding it.

As it stands now, we're right in the path. We live on the Treasure Coast...that is the center of the east coast of Florida. We've been boarding up windows, taking in the plants and outdoor furniture, packing overnight bags for us and our pets. We'd certainly appreciate any prayers. We can't go to a shelter with our pets. We'll be at my daughter's, whose house is sturdier than ours. We live in a manufactured home.
Tomorrow there are supposed to be some very unusual "mackarel" clouds, according to the meterologist. My camera goes where I go of course.
Well, wish us luck!

Moving to Rant because of the mention of "Global Warming"...

For some really interesting info on the Hurricane, check out the (ad-free) NOAA National Hurricane Center, especially the Strike Probabilities.

Well, no matter if you are republican, democratic, independent, libertarian, green party, baptist, catholic, buddhist, christian scientist, or satan worshipper (or anything around, close to, or in between), COVER YOUR ASS and get out of there! There'll be plenty of time to debate the particulars of global warming AFTER the hurricane passes. No matter who or how many people you have had "discussions" with in the past, we'd like to keep you around to have more in the future. Be safe!!!!

You got that right. Here are some photos from just a walk around my house after the last one //www.deltonalakes.com/gallery/charley and now another one. They said that this has not happened for 100 years.

Lets start a thread blaming it on global warming, and blaming global warming on Prezzi Bush!

I'm in the exact same position. I'm also in a major datacenter here in Florida.

And Frances is making everyone nervous including myself. And I'm not one to get nervous. I just got back from getting gas and 3 tarps (bed, futon and electronics) in case the condo above me decides to leak. Below are the photos of the chaos outside. Cars honkin', people yellin' and I heard one guy say "Move it or lose it" to another guy in line outside the local Costco here.

My Dad & Stepmother live in Sebastian, and my younger sister & family live in Vero Beach, and me thinks they are in for a wild ride!

I was in Vero years back when Hurricane David hit and it went right over us! Scariest part was when the eye goes over and it's suddenly beautiful outside! No rain, no wind, blue skies, then BAM it hits again!

Sad part is that many will have "Hurricane Parties" as an excuse to drink and get stupid.

FYI, the DPC Fanatics chatroom is currently hosted on a server based in central Florida, and thus might be offline during the hurricane if phonelines go down. Hopefully, the datacentre will have enough emergency backup power should the power cut out...

Of course, I'm hurriedly making offsite backups of all the data on there, so should the worst happen, the site will be put up on another server somewhere :o)

Looking at that satellite image, looks like some folks are already in the middle of it.

Be careful, everyone close.

I'll be in Vero Beach. It's eerie here already. Just weird vibe in the air.

My friends boarded up their houses, packed their animals and drove to Tampa from Melbourne. They are having a Labor Day Weekend Party, and it was always supposed to be in Tampa, but this time, they will have their pets with them. They will be drinking, but at least they bought enough water to last everyone for a very long time...

On a sad note, my mother in law is on Melbourne Beach, a barrier island. She's being very very stubborn about evacuating. We are still working on her. We live in CA, so we have family there working on her too!!! Ugh, what stress!

i realize that the track of hurricanes has a lot to do with pressure systems and fronts. however, comparing the current track with many of the past hurricanes, shows quite a few turning sharply north once hitting land. Historical Hurricane Tracks so even if you aren't in the path now, you could be later.

I just saw a web page that was located in your area that was down for emergency backup of the database.

Good luck!

Good luck to everyone in Florida. My parents are in Lake Wales. I took them supplies after Charley hit. They are boarding up, and trying to seal the roof as well as possible (alot of shingles were ripped off in the last one). My sister in Gainesville is planning to come up and hang out in Alabama. So is my aunt down in Stuart. And I am getting ready to come down after it comes through to bring more supplies to family and help clean up.
Good luck!!

The latest info says that Vero Beach is a very likely place that Frances will make landfall. That's where I am. We have a large walk in closet prepared. There is really no place we can go to. Hotels are all booked up.
Leaving my pets is out of the question. We will follow every precaution. I'll even resist the urge to photograph until after the storm.

Our thoughts and prayers are with you all..... We will be thinking of you and hoping for the best for you and your families. Be safe.
