Hello, I'm not a tech guy at all. I have old photographs (mostly 4x6s) from years ago. My dad has old photographs of various sizes from decades ago. I'd like to convert some of them to digital format. I was thinking about getting a scanner (Canon? Epson?). Any thoughts, recommendations from you folks that have knowledge/experience with scanners?
- this is for personal use (how high of quality machine should I look at?)
- thoughts on stand alone scanner vs all in one machine?
- around $100 or so...?
- oh ya, currently working with a 2006 era MacBook Pro (probably going to upgrade to a current Apple computer after the new year)
Any thoughts appreciated.

Hi there, I recently purchased a Canon Canoscan 5600F, my Dad is using it to scan old color, really old B&W's and old 35mm color and B&W slides, with some great results.
Cheers

The more I research scanners, the more I think you're right...
Thanks Mike and Wayne for your input.

I have a very old Epson 3170 Photo and it still works very well. It recognises and scans all sorts of items.

@ David Ey and mytime01
How do you find the quality of the scanned version?
There are some photographs that I would like to make a replacement print. Everything I've read says quality of course is not as good... |
