Last I checked, B&H had competitive pricing and (more importantly) very reliable customer service. When I bought my d70 I actually purchased it from a local camera shope because they were within a few dollars of the going rate on the Internet.
Bottom line is to knoe exactly what you want (you do...) and check prices. Sometimes it's nice to purchas efrom a local shop because they can help if things go wrong (ie returning defective model).

About 3 months ago, when I got mine, in-store and internet prices were identical (at least at places that I trusted). I went with the local camera store - they know me now which makes it a friendly place to shop and ask questions. Also, when you buy from a store, you don't have to wait! |

bought mine locally at a ritz on the upper west side. it was one of three d70's in the city (ny) at the time and the other two were the kits. a few years ago i bought a fuji from tristate camera with no problems. at shopping.yahoo.com i pay attention to the sellars rating and the "buyers protection" label.

I looked around for months debating between a Rebel and D70. I finally decided on the D70 after reading about every review I could. The link below I found extrememly complete.

So I started looking at prices and I ended up buying mine at my local BestBuy. I did this because I have thier rewards card (can't use it on their website, only in store) and I should be receiving my gift card for about $45 any day. On top of that my roomate had a coupon that offered 10% off any one purchase at BestBuy (and it expired that evening), so that saved me $135 or so.
I went ahead and bought their in store 4 year warranty. I wonder now if they really qualify for working on Nikon equipment? Now when I picked mine up, the lens had a defect (the motor wouldn't turn the focus ring all of the way, so Best Buy got me another one, VERY long story, but fantastic service). In the box was a warranty offer from Nikon for 5 years. It appears to be free, you just have to mail it within 10 days of your purchase. Unfortunately I left for China the very next day and I didn't read the warranty information until I got home last Monday. So I missed my chance I guess?
I'm a beginner, this is my first time moving beyond a point & shoot and it was a great deal of money for me to invest. I'm really enjoying the camera and per suggestions, I spent the money and bought a SanDisk Ultra II Compact Flash card. I went with the 2GB size. 1 GB would have been enough I suppose, but the 2GB came in handy for this two week trip. The speed is tremendously fast, after shipping I paid around $380.
Sorry so long winded, hope the info helps! |

A D70 body should run you around 999.00 US. The advantage of doing business locally is the raport that you establish with the camera shop. Best Buy has the reward points which can save you some money either up front or afterwards on CF cards, batteries, etc. |
