Hi Guys, new member and my first post, I have just upgraded from a Canon SX10IS to my first SLR a 7D with 10,000 shots on the clock.
Most times when I turn in on, it does everything correctly including focus etc but no shutter release when the shutter button is fully depressed.
If i pop the battery and re-insert it is fine, any ideas or help greatly appreciated, love the camera by the way. Cheers |

off the top of my head, you might want to go through the manual and check out the custom settings. in certain modes, the camera won't fire unless it is sure something is in focus.
and welcome, btw!

Skip's solution is the first I'd suggest. It could be that your shutter button is damaged. The symptoms sound sorta similar to other folks who have had that issue. I've heard people with 30/40/50d's with that issue, if I recall properly. Has your camera been dropped or had force applied to the shutter release? 10,000 is way early for what I'd expect for a shutter release failure on its own.
Welcome! Hopefully you'll get it figured out. |

Thanks for the responses, i'll look into the settings. It just seems strange that when it does it if i drop the battery out and back in its fine.. I have also found this evening that if i connect the camera to my computer it does the same thing, ie the software on the computer does not pick up the camera, as soon as i drop the battery and back in, its fine, so in that instance nothing to do with the shutter button, seems more to do with how the camera is powering up..

did you try factory reset if not then try? just want to make sure everything else that got in would clear it out. also upgrade the firmware if not already. |

the next time it does it, flip the lens to manual focus. if it fires as normal its a problem with the AF. |
