thanks to everyone who commented on my entry. some of the better looking photos were a little less VP-friendly, but I really enjoyed how they came out... enjoy.

Great pics, loved your entry! How fast did were you driving? I would be so nervous with all the gear hanging off the car.

Oh, and how did you trigger the shutter, the Canon remote cord isnt very long.

thanks so much, john. it was a fun experiment. In most of these I was going no fast than 15-20mph, some much slower, just with a longer shutter. very nervous, indeed... I was using the Canon TC-80N3 timer remote... every 5, 10, whatever seconds it trips the shutter...

The standard remote was hard to find in stock anywhere and this has come in very handy more than once. well worth the extra couple of dollars :)

Thanks! No transmitter required. Just set it to "interval" mode and set the timing between shots:

I would love to try this trick...but, I hesitat and fear about droping the camera and watching it bust all over the road...I get sick at my stomach just think about that...Wonderful shots, I really enjoy those views....

I love the blue one, great colors, although I think the first one would have been a better fit to the vanishing point challenge topic.

True. I spent a good 2-3 hours cruising around the back roads, looking for that perfect spot. I found a very nice long straight uphill road with fresh pavement and yellow lines, but the shots just really didn't do it for me. Could have use a ND grad filter (save the sky) and advanced editing rules (power lines) for that one...

Oh well, who can complain about zipping around the back roads on a gorgeous sunday afternoon and 16th place? Thanks again to everyone.

So did you drive thru town with your tripod mounted like that? Get any strange looks?

Only for my submitted photo did I drive around with the mount like that. Had to round the block about a dozen times to get the shot and setting it up each time would have been impossible. Luckily it was about 1am on a sunday night, so there wasn't much traffic, even on this busy road (Clarendon Rd, Arlington, VA).

The folks packing up at Cheescake Factory, where I stopped to setup, sure seemed curious, tho... come to think of it, so did the guy in the pickup truck who was trailing me for the daytime country road shot (at 15mph) :)

What lens did you use and how far were you zoomed out?

I was at the far wide end (16mm) of the Canon 16-35/2.8 for all the shots.

Franky I admire more the courage to hang a 10D like that than the result itself. But I guess you can afford the risk. Nice Mazda btw ;)

...looks like an S2000 actually.
Great shots btw!

I have wanted to try this kind of shot for some time - new inspiration -
woohooo - now to find a more photogenic car than my 33 year old bug...
